Releasing a first game is pretty nerve wrecking, especially when most of your feedback has been within your own network. There's something really lovely about seeing the line go up when it gets in front of a wider audience.

This is all true, which is why it's important as an indie game dev to try to not have a goal of making money.

Make a game for yourself. And for fun. And pride. And maybe if it helps you get laid.

It's easier than ever to make a game, too, but it's never been harder to get paid for it.

And that means you're mostly going to get no-budget, short-cycle, amateur-skill games from the narrow demographic band that can afford to make them in their free time.

Yes it is easier in a technical sense. But the pipeline to funding? Getting the movie seen? Having it move your career forward? Not to mention the spare time and money to survive?

None of that is easier.
