I don't talk much about work here, but this morning I listened to The Daily and it enraged me so much. Here's the thing: I once oversaw a project where an outside party spent a large amount of money to rehabilitate a historic property belonging to the federal government. 1/x

At last it can be told!
Finally sharing what I’ve been building for almost a year now! 🐢✨

Atuin Desktop: runbooks that run

It’s open source and in open beta now 🥰

Built for engineers who need repeatable, reliable workflows. No more copy-pasting from slack or outdated docs

Heidi recently chatted with @rachelchalmers.bsky.social of generationship.ai about Progressive Delivery, AI, and user optionality.

And Robin Wall Kimmerer, as you do when you're a couple technologists discussing technology.

University leaders:

Right now -- this is what the endowments are for.

Backfill the research budgets that the US federal government is freezing/pausing. Do it now.

I know I am hammer-meets-nail about this, but this is also one reason I think public opinion data is genuinely important -- to provide even an imperfect sense of how what's happening in anyone's individual feed fits into the broader experience.
A huge part of thinking clearly in our age of algorithmic bombardment is being able to ground yourself in experience, facts, and set principles of discernment when everyone around you is responding reactively to the madness of the moment.
On social media, everything is constantly radicalizing some subset of people, until the next thing takes over and the previous enthusiasm is largely forgotten. You'll rarely go broke betting against the staying power of whatever trendy thing is lighting up your social media platform of choice.

I had a walk today and thought about the relationship between civility, discomfort, and abuse.

Some of you know that “civility” is one of my hard “ugh” triggers. This thread will explain why.

Fact-checking works, according to Sander van der Linden, a social psychologist at the University of Cambridge: “Studies provide very consistent evidence that fact-checking does at least partially reduce misperceptions about false claims.” www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Does fact-checking work? What the science says
Meta’s planned shift away from third-party fact-checking on Facebook in favour of a crowdsourced approach has perplexed those who study the spread of misinformation.
