Fundamentally, there's no chance of them being reinstated if no one tries to fight for them. I used the tools that I had available. If you have a better tool, go for it.
4. In addition to the short term, there's also the long term. There are going to be a lot more cuts to medical libraries over the next few years. We stand no chance if even people who like libraries have no idea what a medical librarian is. We need to take advantage of these moments to educate.
I think there are a number of them: 1. Showing solidarity with the staff who are laid off. Showing that there are a lot of people who care about the CDC library makes a difference to them.
2. If you knew about this before this afternoon, you were in a tiny minority. None of my coworkers knew...
Hi, I'm the person who actually wrote the petition and email your rep campaign for every library. I'm also a med librarian. If you're interested, I didn't do it because I directly think the number of signatures is going to get them their jobs back. There are other reasons.
Hi, Every Library (a political group that advocates for libraries) just launched a petition and a way to email your reps to support the CDC librarians: Petition: action.everylibrary.org/cdclibrarype...
Important update! The #SaveOurSigns initiative has released the first batch of photos captured in National Parks. Check out the website as well as the press release for more info:
Thanks for getting back to me. I've been in contact with Every Library, I'm going to write them today and see what they can do to try to activate their base. ❤️ Hang in there.
Hi, sorry to bother you, but were you guys brought back or is the library still gone? I'm a medical librarian and I want to try to rally support for you all as best I can -- trying to ascertain what is happening.
Missing the gay part, but I'm looking forward to reading Gilded Rage by Jacob Silverman on the tech fascist class. I think it just released a couple weeks ago. I've liked his other work.
I'm not saying that. I don't think the researchers would do this if they didn't think of the subjects as less than. I just don't think they did it as part of a broader plot to drive trans people away from the hospital. I don't think that much thought went into it. In some ways, makes it worse.
As someone who works at a large hospital, I really doubt this. There are just stupid and self centered researchers and hospitals with poor data controls. I doubt it was a broader conspiracy, or that the researchers were thinking of anyone other than themselves.
I worked there right before the takeover. It was pretty obvious that they're using it as a dumping ground for patronage jobs for DeSantis cronies who get forced out of state government. That's where the money is going. It's not going to last once he's term limited out.
