I mean, I think she's using his soul to power her sword. Or at least did in the moment. The soul energy came out of the crowd after he gave her his soul, and that energy was shared by all the hunters.

So, that's my theory on how they bring Jinu back in KPDH 2. Either he's haunting her through it, or the plot is to find a way to get him a new body.

Well, maybe that's the B plot so they can focus on Mira or Zoey.

Now he's going to live as long as she is, and she's the stuff of legends ("when darkness meets the light"). She's probably going to live a lot longer than the typical human. And that's even if she doesn't make an afterlife like demon sovereigns do.

Now, it may be as a ghost, he may be able to get a physical body again. He's winging it.

But he was desperate. His choices were to be trapped with Gwi-ma, wander the earth until his soul ran out of energy, or...this.

So, he gives her his soul, she uses the energy in it to defeat Gwi-ma, and his physical body is destroyed protecting her. But his soul belongs to Rumi. So once it gets energy back in it (from the soul energy she borrows from the fans) he'll be able to come back.

Jinu realized that he was free of Gwi-ma but it's Gwi-ma that's been keeping him around for hundreds of years. He needs someone new to keep him around. And what better to be the right hand of a demon queen that walks around the human world?

We don't know who Rumi's father was, so he could have been a demon king. Her mom was definitely a hunter. So, you have a child that can keep souls and has the knowledge to use their power.

So, why did Jinu do this? Immortality.

Normal demons can't keep souls for themselves, or we'd see them do it. Presumably normal humans can't either. Hunters weave soul magic into the Honmoon, but don't keep the souls. Only the demon king takes and keeps a soul.

We see Gwi-ma using souls to make himself stronger, and Jinu said that when he had no souls he was at his weakest. So, Jinu gives his soul to Rumi to give her more power. And here's the important thing, she can take it.

So, Rumi is there, and she's fighting Gwi-ma. Jinu is thinking as fast as he can. He realizes that Rumi is stronger than him (when they both use demon voices, only her voice ripples the Honmoon) and he's pretty powerful. The only people more powerful than him are demon kings. Or queens.

Gwi-ma imprisoned Jinu through his shame, not by taking his soul. No one drank his soul away, but that's never mentioned because Gwi-ma doesn't want anyone to get any ideas. When Gwi-ma draws back the demons in the final concert, the Saja boys are left, because their souls were never part of him.

He gets the idea when the kid gives him the drawing in the signing scene. Notice how he focuses in on the word soul? We're supposed to think that this makes him reflect on his nature etc. What he realizes is that he has one.

Ok, because absolutely no one asked for it, here's my Kpop Demon Hunters theory: Demon Queen Rumi.

Ok, first thing I have have to establish is this is entirely Jinu's plan. Keep in mind he hasn't done an unselfish thing in 400 years. And we're supposed to believe that he sacrifices himself?

I hate to be that girl, but I'd kick myself for not recommending the programming over at All on the Table. Trans produced with lots of trans players and GMs. They took something of a break and are now starting up with a puppet based TTRPG.
