I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

I can’t help but think of the absolute cowardice of the private sector, pharma and biotech in particular, who for decades have profited off of relationships with the public sector. Now that civil servants like those at the CDC are being fired en masse, the private sector is no where to be found.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

RFK Jr. also falsely claims that with the government shutdown:

“Democrats want to hurt hospitals and clinics in vulnerable communities by repeal of $50B in rural health care funding”.

He omits the fact that the “One Big Beautiful Bill” cuts $187B and that rural health clinics are already closing.

This is alarming. Resources for dementia patients and caregivers are already stretched and expected to reach crisis level by 2030.

New from @abbierichards.bsky.social, based in part on research I provided:

TikTok Shop is now selling supplements from a company co-founded by "Plandemic" conspiracy theorist Mikki Willis.

The company claims the supplements “bulletproof your immune system,” likely in violation of TikTok rules.

The label of a drug is close to a sacrosanct document. It represents the trust between the government and the user of the drug that the drug is safe and effective and that all risks and benefits are accurately outlined. Changing it to suit a political agenda is imo an earthshaking matter

Even before Trump, preterm births and low birthweight births are more prevalent under GOP presidencies than Dem presidencies.

The negative association between Republican presidencies & infant health is especially pronounced for Black babies.

Gupta: It is safe. That’s what the best-quality research shows. And how irresponsible, using the podium of the WH to put this out there when you’re not even offering an alternative. That is dangerous. An untreated fever is dangerous. Untreated pain in pregnancy is dangerous.

Realizing that the endpoint here is probably massively scaling back screening for autism spectrum disorders, limiting resources for people who need them, but leading to a decline in cases & declaration of victory.

Since this is going to be headline news tomorrow…

The highest quality research has shown Tylenol use in pregnancy is NOT at all associated with autism risk.

To suggest otherwise is to be an amateur that cherry-picks data points from decades ago.

What we discussed 2 weeks ago remains true today ⬇️

There’s a lot of problem in US Healthcare. It’s early out west, I’m in an ICU, and I see directly the challenges we need to work on.

One thing we don’t need to worry about is pre-natal use of Tylenol as a cause of Autism.

Yet here we are. We provide an explanation on yet another distraction.

There have now been two ACIP members arguing patients at high-risk of severe Covid are likely already under the care of a physician, and that is just such a stunning level of ignorance on the prevalence of health inequities in America.

These don’t read like recommendations though, right? These read like disclaimers or something before actual recommendations.

FDA political Tracy Beth Hoeg who is generally pretty against covid vaccine keeps suggesting there is legitimacy to some pretty ridiculous questions coming from ACIP on the covid vaccines. Hope people realize she is not a career FDA scientists, vaccine expert etc.

Kulldorff: “I’m sure our colleagues in the media understood this conversation [correlate of protection] with perfect clarity.”

I am willing to bet most of ACIP didn’t understand that conversation. Stones and glass houses and what not.

Wrong. It was a true or false question.

This ACIP panel is repeatedly trying to present themselves as open to debate and scientific exchange, but the number of questions they ask that conclude with ”True or False” or “Yes or No” shows they have no intention of debate or robust scientific exchange.

Pharmacoeconomics is a challenging topic for most people. Myself included, to be fair. I am very interested to see what questions, if any, arise from this pharmacoeconomic presentation on COVID vaccination at this ACIP meeting. I am not optimistic this panel has even a rudimentary understanding.

I stepped away to do my day job for 15 minutes and missed this?! I should have taken a PTO day just to watch ACIP…
