My first thought when making a solo mode for a chess-like game was "What's the point? How could you ever simulate a meaningful game of chess without simply doing chess puzzles?"
Then I had the idea to make it sort of like a top-down arcade shooter... no, stay with me... 😅

I wanted a building that fit the shape of a wide card without any sky in it, but wasn't a boring box either. The NHM is one of my favorite museums ever! It isn't a perfect rectangle but was simple to adapt to this shape.

It took a bit of work to figure out how to translate a leafy building into a useable card, but we settled on this textured look.
