Watch Josh Palmer (5) at the bottom of the screen stem his route to get the CB (21) to widen, and then stab outside to open him up before working to the post. Palmer wins deep here because of his stem work (and because 3 Falcons cover the crosser)

I think a good chunk is defenses adjusting.

A small example of this: the Bills love hitting their RBs on the wheel/rail route when they run Mesh Rail. Defenses have been all over it this year. The Bills are kind of getting found out

In 2024 (regular season & playoffs) Josh Allen was sacked 19 times, and had a pressure to sack rate of 9.0%

This year through 6 games he’s been sacked 12 times, and has a pressure to sack rate of 16.4% (3rd highest rate of his career and the highest since 2019)

There’s a larger schematic & personnel conversation to be had here, but James Cook only having 13 targets & 12 receptions this season feels too low considering his skillset + the injuries/questions the Bills have had at WR

Also another really unfortunate example of rush and coverage taking turns letting each other down for the Bills. Bosa gets pressure quickly, but the wide open coverage bust gives Penix an easy out

For what it’s worth Tre looks visibly frustrated w/ Dorian who looks to be stating his case to Tre. Rapp was all over the Dig so this feels like C3 Buzz which would have put Dorian in the flat

Bijan’s pace & deception also plays a role. Slows plays his release, peaks inside, then pushes vertical

The Bills defense looks to be in C3, giving Tre White (27) deep third responsibilities and either Taylor Rapp (9) or Dorian Williams (42) the curl flat (depending on the call). But nobody takes the flat & Tre goes with the Dig from Pitts then falls off

I’m advocating for using your best offensive weapon to support the offense as needed, when needed. I understand the long game, but if wear & tear is a concern to that degree then they shouldn’t have signed him

Essentially the same thing on the TD run from Allgeier: motion to manipulate the Bills defense, run outside zone, change the math, get a hat on a hat, Bills defenders don’t get off blocks, missed tackle, TD

I had no idea that was true about the holding penalties against haha. I think that’s a legitimate statistical oddity. You’d expect there to be at least a handful through 6 games
