As a Classics major, what goes around in my head is the Domus Aurea, built by none other than the emperor Nero. From wiki: They found Nero's construction projects overly extravagant and claim that their cost left Italy "thoroughly exhausted by contributions of money" with "the provinces ruined".

I agree. I live in Winnipeg/Manitoba, and after several hard years of a blue provincial govt, we elected Wab. And it's like night and day here.
