The #European socialists have expelled #Slovak PM Robert #Fico’s party Smer from their ranks after years of suspension, citing his closeness to #Putin and #Xi and pressure on media, which we have reported on as well. Fico calls it proof Brussels no longer understands “authentic Slovak left.”

13/x: Crucially, #Babiš has already met with leaders of both the Motorists and the SPD. Deputy head of ANO #Havlíček says a "stable government" is their priority. At the same time, Babiš said he prefers a minority government "supported by parties in line with ANO's program". Will it work? Let's see
12/x: Counting nearly over in the #Czech #election. The results are clear: #ANO of former PM #Babiš dominates. A populist government of ANO, supported by the right-wing extremist #SPD and the Eurosceptic, anti-green newcomer #Motorists seems like the most likely govt. More details in a video soon!
Pro moje české publikum: nemělo by zapadnout, že toto je další z dlouhé řady neúspěšných kandidatur Jany Bobošíkové. #Czechia #election
11/x: With nearly 95% of votes counted, the results of the #Czech #election are pretty much a done deal. #ANO has dominated the election with over 35%. The #SPOLU coalition came in second with over 22%. While Babiš is a clear winner, putting a workable coalition together may prove difficult.
Thanks for the perspective.
You said "SPD 7% is better than polls predicted". I've shown you polls which predicted the SPD would gain more than 10%. 10% is more than 7%, so you are wrong.
10/x: While the counting continues in #Czechia, the overall result remains largely unchanged. As it stands, ANO would win 88/200 seats, SPOLU 47/200 seats, Mayors 22/200, SPD 16/200, Pirates 14/200, Motorists 13/200
No, it is not. The last polls before the election put the SPD at around 10%, some even much more than that. For example, STEM:
According to the projection just published on CNN Prima News, ANO should end up around 35%, with the Communists out and both the SPD and Motorists around 7%. I wouldn't expect a large change with the Pirates.
9/x: The Communists (rebranded as "STAČILO") come short of the 5% threshold, scoring only around 4% of the vote. This is the biggest surprise of the election, if true. Some polls before the election showed the Communists even around 10% of the vote.
8/x: EXLUSIVE: According to an exclusive projection by CNN Prima News, #ANO has won the #Czech election with over 35%, followed by the SPOLU coalition (around 20%), the Mayors (12%), the SPID (7.8%), and the Motorists (7.5%). The biggest surprise is that the Communists should stay out of Parliament
7/x: So far, #ANO of Andrej #Babiš is dominating the preliminary results. It sits at around 40% of the vote. However, its vote share is expected to decrease with time as bigger cities are counted
6/x: The first projection of the overall #election result in #Czechia is expected around 15.30 Prague time.
5/x: With around 10% of precincts counted, it is clear that voter turnout in the #Czech #election will likely be higher than in 2021. So far, turnout stands at 70%. If it remains high, it could disadvantage smaller parties which have disciplined voters, but not that many of them overall.
In the last #Czech #election in 2021, the results were really close. The current government leader, SPOLU, made it into first place around 7pm. At that point, over 90 percent of the precincts had already been counted.
3/x: Polls have also shown the more extreme, Euro- and NATO-sceptic parties may turn out to be the kingmakers. Both the right-wing populist SPD and the re-branded Communists, running under the name of "Stačilo" could play a key role in the new Parliament.
ANO, the party of former #Czech PM Andrej Babiš, was the frontrunner in the vast majority of polls ahead of the election. The current government of the STAČILO coalition, together with the more liberal Mayors, are predicted to come in second.
THREAD: Czechia has elected its new Chamber of Deputies. Voting ended at 2pm Prague time; vote counts are now underway.
Not surprising at all. I'm actually quite surprised he still hasn't got rid of the community notes feature, doesn't really serve him. Thanks for watching the video and getting in touch! ❤️
