Coming back after a minute away to kvell about the major victory of AAUP & MESA V. Rubio. So proud to be part of the NYU AAUP chapter that joined the suit.
WE WON: "This case -– perhaps the most important ever to fall w/in..this district court squarely presents the issue whether non-citizens lawfully present here in US..have the same free speech rights as the rest of us. The Court answers this Constitutional question unequivocally “yes, they do.”"

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.
Breaking News: Brad Lander, the New York City comptroller who is running for mayor, was detained by ICE agents at an immigration court as he tried to escort a migrant out of the courthouse to prevent his arrest. nyti.ms/4jWkANE

Zohran has already condemned it and called for Brad's release: bsky.app/profile/zohr...
NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant.

This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.
Here's a longer video of Brad Lander's detention just now inside 26 Federal Plaza as he tried to walk a man out of immigration court, by masked federal agents.

Absolutely horrendous.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

My office windows on campus look out on the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory (now an NYU classroom/lab building) so not a day goes by that I don't think about corporate greed.
I was just reminded today is the 114th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. 146 garment workers dead because greedy owners didn't want them taking breaks and there were no regulations for fire safety at the time.

All the regulations Certain People bitch about are written in blood.

Confused by outrage over dems not walking out when Al Green left. How many people are willing to disrupt their workplace to fight facism? Most ppl think "disruption" is embarrassing, childish, lacking decorum, at best--in whispers--"brave." Most of us would rather wear pink and hold up little signs.

Colleges must stand up to the new segregationists (opinion)
In rushing to comply with Trump’s executive actions, universities support a segregationist agenda, Subini Annamma and David Stovall write.

To truly live Dr. King's legacy means defending the right to speak truth to power, even when—especially when—that truth makes us uncomfortable.

Even when—especially when—the greater society moves to suppress that speech.

NYU students exercising their constitutional right to protest have faced harsh punishment on this very campus.
