Writer of literary fiction focusing on identity. Why? I'm still trying to figure that out one book at a time. Write what you know is a problem for me. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Ally Always 🌈✨| Respect, Love, Equality ❤️ | Team Blue For Life 💙🌊

"Lennox gave a *hoarse* chuckle." That would have been a really funny typo to miss.

A picture of a horse with the caption it's enough to make a horse laugh.

Don't encourage my inner research demon.

Back Pressure: deliberate counter-pacing that withholds the next causal beat and saturates the moment with thematically charged particulars, converting the reader’s narrative hunger into bodily unease.

Inadvertent tongue twister. Looks fine on the page, but out loud it is three times later and speaking very slowly.

There is every style. I came to realize - that at least for me - that for most conversations there is no reason to add dialogue tags. Each speaker should be distinct enough for their words to make it clear who is talking.

Four months later...eesh...revision 3 done with at least one more to go. Past me, 90% was very optimistic. I should be celebrating, but...tired.

I finished two revisions of my book! I am 90% done! ...begins line editing...two days and one page later...make that 1%.

Oh yes, that changes Chapter 3 too...and Chapter 8...oh and Chapter 11...

This character would not do that, plot or no. The words saying they do are all a lie. Sure that upends the book, but misunderstanding the character so badly - and letting people see that in print - is so much worse.

I met him when he did a reading at a library. I had nothing cool to say. Never meet your heroes...because you will look like an idiot.

I write because I *don't* understand the MC. I'm just as surprised as the reader - perhaps more so since the MC just shredded half my notes in a single paragraph.

Countless revisions prove that I am not a great writer, I am a persistent one.

Alternatively it is something you want to do, which is different.

In theory people could Karen you just because, but f them is one take.

Is the book industry more regressive than movies or tv?

I have a similar dilemma in a book where the MC's sexuality is all over it - including romance - but the book isn't really about that. I think I would have to accept that bisexuality is triggering, which I have a hard time doing. I don't recall any warning label on movies or tv.

Research doesn't necessarily make a good story. And I absolutely cannot help myself.

You have done better than me. I have given it up for spates too...but then there is the occasional weekend bender and before I know it I've fallen off the wagon.

I would like to think of my writing as Kafka meets Dorothy Allison.

You could be writing! Is there an off switch to that?
ponchowriter.bsky.social
Writing...writing...getting into the flow...writing...making progress...wait...is this factually correct? ...three hours on Wikipedia later...

Sometimes a word just feels a certain way.

"Marcus donned his hardhat and took a breath. He stepped toward the boarded brick mastaba."
