Biologist, very amateur photographer of local flora and fauna. Insatiable curiosity. All photos are my originals except where noted 🇺🇦
Common buckeye showing a little late-season wear, but still brilliant colors. This was taken earlier this week in a patch of climbing asters in my yard that has proven to be a pollinator-magnet. #butterflies #insects #pollinator #bugsky #nature #wildlife🦋

This rose is entirely self-sufficient where I live. It was sold by a local nursery as having been sourced from old local homesteads that were long abandoned. I have provided no care and it has actually multiplied via runners. #roseWednesday #RedWed 🌹 #rose #bloomscrolling

Harlequin larva seen in south Florida. My best guess is it's the juvenile of the invasive Asian lady beetle. See the ALT text for more. #bugsky #insects #nature #beetle

Most roses where I live don't do well because of the climate. People that manage to grow them must use a lot of fertilizer and pesticides/fungicides, which I am loathe to do. In spite of my neglect, this drift rose had a beautiful blossom that I decided to share. #stunday #rose #bloomscrolling 🌹

There's a lot going on here. I first saw the praying mantis on a Bidens plant and noticed the sulfur butterfly too. When I looked at the photo closer, I noted the appendages of a spider appearing over the white blossom to the left. 🐛🦋 #bugsky #mantis #butterfly #spider #nature #insects #wildlife

Ripening drupes of the native shrub, Walter's viburnum. This is a great evergreen plant to have in your yard, as the white flowers attract pollinators in the spring and the fruits attract birds in the fall. #nativeplant #nature 🐝 🐦 #gardening

Unidentified spider that made a home on a Lobelia wildflower. I never realized how common this is until I started macro photography of wildflowers. It makes sense: let the prey come to you.
