Having an out-of-body experience reading about this apparently kind, lovely agent who cares SO MUCH about authors, when my experience of querying them involved a terse response asking if my previous publisher had accepted the manuscript, to which I said no, followed by ghosting.

This is seriously worrying - do read the whole thread
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I've been going through such a body crisis these past few weeks that I was simply going to throw this away, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So now I'm purposefully, literally, ingesting a stranger's kindness.

It always warms my heart to see my second novel at my mum's house. She did the cover images — the front based on the brief I gave her, combining symbols of Cyprus, religion and Greek nationalism, and the back an existing abstract representation of our motherland.

OK, all I'm getting from this is cringe, but I still prefer it one hundred million times to AI fascist bulldogs ridding the British streets of foreigners or whatever.

Hope is power.

Remaining humble by remembering the time that I — a bisexual, bilingual migrant from an ethnically/racially vague country both European and Asian, where I was often mistaken for a foreigner — entered a writing comp with the theme of "in-betweenness" and didn't even make the longlist.

1/5 It was entirely predictable that The Telegraph would jump on @DavidOlusoga’s Empire series to fight its right wing culture war for control of our public history. Let’s see what they’ve done:

"I DNF first-person books if I can't relate to the protagonist" is a kind of illiteracy.

The point of first person is not to insert yourself into a narrative. You are supposed to experience and empathize with the perspective of a character that is intended to be fully fleshed out.

Book news! Delighted to share the cover of my next book. Out 10/02/26 @renardpress.com
Read about it here: renardpress.com/books/all-th... It’s a short novel, creeping, unsettling and a book of taboo and that’s for sure. 📚💙
