It drained both parties. Parliament proved how incompetent it was when it failed to agree any kind of deal, and the result was the 2019 landslide which thinned out the labour ranks. And then 2024 happened.

They've already had to start paying car tax, this was always on the cards once they became more 'normal'. The supply of ICE cars is being throttled back now so there's not much option.

Well they have to do something, the motorist is a cash cow and electric cars are so heavy they'll be ending up doing more damage to the roads. What they'll probably do is whack up fuel duty as well to maintain the ev advantage.

I remember seeing a documentary about Jackanory and one of the final producers (i think) was discussing is demise saying something like "we did everything to make it relevant - featuring stories on homelessness, drug abuse, family break ups - but the ratings still went down"

The thing that's killing bluesky is that its full of people re-posting examples of the worst extremes of twitter with a 'look what they're going on about over there now' vibe. It's always been possible to exist on twitter without seeing all that shite, but impossible now to avoid it here. Well done.
