For new followers, my posts on here fall into three categories of various levels of irritating:

1) Posting pieces of my A.V. Club writing I think didn't completely suck.

2) Letting people know what I'm streaming on Friday/Saturday nights

3) INTRUSIVE THOUGHT DISPOSAL

Had a Real Will Day today. Solo minigolf, browsed the board game store for an hour, perfectly fresh fish and chips from a food cart. Needed the recharge.

Less jokily, I think it extends the ITYSL vibe to full length much more successfully than Friendship did? Nobody's full-blown crazytown, but everybody has a wheelbarrow that they're all terrified someone is going to notice they've been taking outside.

Hi yeah just a quick complaint, I'm relating to this Tim Robinson protagonist about 30 percent too much? My sense of self can't really take that much "Actually, he has a point"

I saw you saying that earlier and it's a bummer! My personal eyes see little/no resemblance but your self image is your self image. It's a really interesting game in terms of the feelings it produces, both through play and narrative, some really sharp stuff about "failure" running through out.

Last night was my first two-hour Baby Steps stream in which I made NO progress, literally finished where I started, a powerful emotion, game of the year

One of my wife's good friends is an educator here in Portland, she's looking for some help to finalize her immigration paperwork and cover some necessary medical procedures in this very scary time. Please consider kicking in a bit!

Words I thought I'd never get to type again: Catch me at @avclub.com tonight, writing about Tim Robinson's latest string of onscreen humiliations and faux pas.

Streaming tonight at 8 p.m. Last night on Baby Steps I spent 90 minutes trying to get to a ringing phone and when I answered it my dad heavily implied he wasn't proud of me. It's a really good game!

One great thing about this game: It has a perfect little reward loop, where to power up your spells you have to not just kill big roaming bosses, but in specific, puzzle-y ways. Strenuous, interesting tasks (usually involving risky Shadow Of The Colossus climbing), married to huge payoff. Love it.

Streaming tonight at 8 p.m., more Baby Steps! If you want to understand why, please watch this clip, which comes AFTER I spent an hour carrying a melting piece of ice through the desert, and right before, at the 99 percent point, falling and flinging it in a hole. www.twitch.tv/plumberduck/...

I don't like to be controversial, but fuck it: Sigourney Weaver is our best Sigourney and it's not even particularly close.

Annoying my wife with jokes about Trump rolling troops into Portland and immediately instituting martial law at Voodoo Donuts. "Ugh, such a tourist move! All the local dictators know you launch a coup at Blue Star or Pip's."

While I'm being critical, I think the show has a real problem with confusing the charisma of its actors and its characters. Tim Meadows? Awesome. His character? Piece of shit, weird to see him teaming up with our guys.

This goes, like, triple for Cena/Peacemaker.
plumberduck.bsky.social
how the hell do you have one music video montage where the characters walk slowly in the same direction while smiling and nodding at each other and then think "fuck it, we need a second one"

I wrote about Mario Galaxy and a slightly unwelcome reminder of the "Screw it, toss in some motion controls" era

Also: I never want to fall into the trap of being Mr. "My Political Lenses Are The TV Show's Problem" but it IS kinda wild to spend 7 episodes building up to the reveal that you're dealing with a literal Nazi world where all the brown people have been locked up, then completely ignore it for the 8th

There are some good moments (mostly from Danielle Brooks), but between moving scenery to set up The Next Movie, the multiple music videos and slow-motion smile walks, and the bizarre comics deep pulls (we're doing Salvation Run?!) that felt shaaaaaaaaaaaggy

Boy howdy, that Peacemaker finale is a strong argument for not having the guy writing, the guy directing, and the guy deciding whether the writer and director are doing a good job be the same guy, huh?

I've been watching the final season of Alice In Borderland, which continues to distinguish itself from Squid Game by having murder games that have actual game design behind them, and now I have a fantasy of interviewing game designers and asking them to cook up their dream murder game.

Eternal Strands has maybe the biggest gulf between how much I love it and how much people have played it in 2025, REALLY cool physics-heavy exploration game with a nice kernel of Shadow Of The Colossus nestled in its heart. Good writing, too!

I was thinking about "I'm Too Sexy" today, as one does, and it strikes me that not nearly enough songs give a concrete reason for why they're ending. Fred's telling you about the inadequacies of his shirt, he realizes he's ALSO too sexy for this song, he lets us know. Considerate!

It's like having your own movie theater where your face and neck hurt a little bit all the time and everything's slightly blurry and if your wife walks into the room without you noticing and says something you get real scared
