I don't want to be here. It's another company that controls a platform that can ruin things at any time. Find me on Mastodon at [email protected] where I believe in the platform, consider joining me!

That said, I'm feeling the network effect, so here I am again 👋
You know, you can just ask the dental hygienist for the bubblegum flavored polish if you want 😁

"Where are you visiting from?"

"Hah, no where, I've lived here for 15 years and I still love this view" 😍
On to #GitHubUniverse day 2! I'll still be at the IBM booth talking about our hosted GitHub Actions service for Linux on IBM Z and Power ⚙️
I worked around a problem I was having with a Python script by using a Perl regex to adjust the source data 😂

I'll come back to the Python script, but apparently this morning my brain only wants to access knowledge that's two decades old.
Was Tron: Ares a silly action movie?

Yes.

Was Tron: Ares also a great two hour Nine Inch Nails music video?

Also yes. 😍
People have been mentioning how horrible it is that delayed SNAP is happening near Thanksgiving, but I think it's the silver lining. There was always MORE food available from the community around Thanksgiving because there are a lot of food drives. Our pantry was always replenished in Nov-Dec.
Food stamps were a literal lifeline to my family growing up.

Thankfully, I'm no longer in that position, but my visceral reaction to SNAP benefits potentially not coming to families in November is anxiety & fear.

This is a good time for a reminder to donate to your local food bank if you're able.
Will anyone reading this be at GitHub Universe in San Francisco next week?

It's my first time attending since 2019, would be lovely to say hello. I'll mostly be at the IBM booth, but I'll be dropping by some sessions as well.
Cool to see that the IBM Spyre AI Accelerator as part of a #PyTorch Conference keynote from Christian Jacobi.

You may roll their eyes at a lot of AI stuff, but the inference work it's allowing enterprise clients to do with their models is legit.

IBM is expanding open-source AI model training and inference
At PyTorch 2025, IBM showed off the new open-source AI software tools that are redefining possibilities for a multi-AI accelerator world.

I was trying to explain the AWS outage to a normal person yesterday (she asked) and I... didn't do a good job.

How can I do better?
Finally got a chance to listen to the latest episode of the Open Mainframe Project's Mainframe Coven where they interviewed Meredith Stowell (my VP!)

She shared our efforts to draw folks from non-traditional backgrounds into the world of #mainframe 💙

I was solo with two little kids this weekend, so I'm just in a different stage of life than folks who can easily go to protests, but thank you to everyone who did #NoKings
This morning I drank orange juice the boys and I made from oranges our neighbor across the street dropped off. For lunch today I'm eating the last of the chicken soup our next door neighbor made for me when I had my surgery.

We live near good people 💕
There were a lot of fun things about #IBMTechXchange 2025 last week, but one of my favorites was our "Doom Takeover" at the Monday evening expo hall party. Instead of running our demos, I just had people logging into an IBM #LinuxONE #mainframe and playing Freedoom over VNC #Doom 😁
My sore throat is strongly protesting the notion that orange juice is good for a cold.

HOWEVER, it's delicious fresh orange juice made with oranges our neighbors grew, so I'm trying to enjoy it anyway.
It should come as no surprise to you that I brought home a cold from the conference I participated in with 10k people last week 🤧

Still, I'd appreciate it if my immune system would at least try 😅
I ordered school pictures in a timely manner!

But then I tried to give away the kids while at the hardware store.

So I figure it's about a wash parent-wise today 😂
Reflecting upon a conversation this week I had about AI, it's clear that I feel the environmental impact deep in my soul. You basically can't ask my opinion about AI without getting at least a dose of concern and a plea for renewable energy.
Happy first birthday, Zara! 😸🎂
I'm at #IBMTechXchange 2025, yesterday was a whirlwind of great open source and community stuff 😍

Starting today w/ a #mainframe roadmap that has a lot of AI, exploring AIOps that use agents to help administrators pinpoint and solve root cause failures more quickly.

Much better than junky AI art.
Got my COVID-19 booster yesterday, but doing it before a day of fasting (Yom Kippur) wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done.

Still, I was mostly ok. Shanah Tovah!
Our beloved kitty is in a cone and bandage for her [hopefully] healing paw pad.

Well, she WAS. This morning I woke up with my beautiful kitty wanting food and love and... OH HEY WHERE ARE YOUR CONE AND BANDAGE?

We tried rewrapping at home, but our amateur job wasn't good. Back at the vet 😞
