Our report paints a stark picture. In addition to the experiences of early career and fixed term colleagues, nearly half of all permanently employed UK geographers currently feel precarious.
Precarity is often presented as something that only effects early career researchers or people on fixed term contracts.

Our report found that 45% of geographers on permanent contracts feel precarious.

The implications for the discipline are wide ranging. Read more 👇

Serial fixed-term contracts are having a devastating effect on colleagues' lives and on the health of our discipline. Read more in our linked report. #StatesofPrecarity
Precarity is not a niche issue.

One-third of academic Geographers in the UK are on fixed-term contracts.

Our report shows the profound personal, professional, and disciplinary impacts of this. #StatesofPrecarity

Really glad that this is finally out - thanks so much to all of the contributors and participants involved. The report's findings are so important, and reading through the responses has been deeply emotional. Our discipline is being eroded by precarious employment practices, but it can be otherwise.
Today, we’re starting a countdown to the launch event for our States of Precarity in UK HE Geography report. Based on 364 responses from across the discipline, it maps how precarity is shaping academic lives. #StatesofPrecarity

Follow along as we share the findings week by week.
