Science Teacher and University Lecturer teaching A Level Physics, Biology and Chemistry, but spent much of my teaching in A Level Maths and Computing. Now a Private Teacher. Hobbies Sailing on the River Thames, and making videos and photography.
A good pontoon landing isn’t about speed or strength. It’s about timing, wind awareness, and letting physics help.Turning head-to-wind at the last moment makes all the difference.

Dishwasher tablets look harmless – but they contain alkaline cleaners, enzymes, surfactants, fragrances, and often plastic film.
Safer for dishes ≠ safer for rivers.
Greener options? Powder, eco tablets, and using less.

Your breathing can become data. Using a @pascoscientific differential pressure sensor, students can see lung function in real time — pressure, airflow, graphs and interpretation all in one practical.

Same mass. Different shapes.Different terminal velocities. A 2 m water tube and a @pascoscientific rotation sensor make drag visible — then two umbrellas finish the argument.

Foiling on the Thames?
In theory – yes. In practice – shallow water, moorings, traffic and hidden hazards make it a risky business.
Some wide, quiet reaches might work for expert wind- or e-foilers… but the Thames really isn’t built for flying.

Britain could be heading for its greenest Christmas Day ever.
The National Energy System Operator says mild, windy weather could deliver the lowest-ever carbon intensity for electricity on 25 December.

Some of the most important chemistry happens quietly.
Time-lapse and macro techniques reveal faint indicator changes and slow precipitate formation—turning “blink and you miss it” moments into powerful teaching tools.

How do we really understand genetic inheritance? By studying model organisms.
Fruit flies, pea plants, zebrafish & mice reveal inheritance patterns clearly

The greenest thing you can do today? Stop buying stuff.
Last-minute shopping creates waste, returns, and regret. Doing nothing uses no packaging, no fuel, and no guilt.

If your corporate video feels stiff, the problem probably isn’t the presenter.
It’s the setup.
Eye-line, pacing, and delivery matter more than gear.

Psychology A Level tip 🧠Rereading ≠ remembering. Memory improves when you practise retrieval, not recognition. Test yourself. Space it out. Repeat. hemelprivatetuition.blogspot.com/2025/12/psyc...

How close is too close for a safety boat? On the Thames, being moored quietly on the bank can be safer — and faster — than hovering over the fleet. Good safety cover is about reaction time, not proximity. pmrsailing.blogspot.com/2025/12/how-...

Science students don’t fail because they don’t know enough. They fail because they know the wrong thing very confidently.
Real progress comes from surfacing misconceptions, testing them with evidence, and rebuilding understanding properly. philipmrussell.blogspot.com/2025/12/from...

2025’s AI boom had a hidden cost. New research shows soaring CO₂ emissions and massive water use driven by energy-hungry data centres.
