So...umm..the grand scheme to clear my desk was...umm..like 75% sucessful? I can say I reduced the magic cards and sleeves significantly at least. I cleared enough room to play commander by webcam, so minimum viable product achieved.

Thr current system also makes the border(s) of the card match the color identity. A new player probably doesn’t know what a color indicator is. But it can be easily assumed that flip Avacyn has a White/Red color identity even if she doesn’t have any red mana symbols.

Red to black is pretty simple. Red to blue is the storm player’s bane. It’s expensive artifacts like chromatic orerry and mycosyth lattice, has other limitations like candelabra, or one shots like Apex of Power. Hell to Pay shows WoTC makes it purposefully hard or inefficient.

WoTC is asking for feedback about a potential rule change. Color identity of hybrid mana symbols can be considered either color for deck legality. So Kitchen Finks could go into mono white and mono green.

Eff it why not? I’m building my chemist FFT cosplay I had planned for Vegas and scrapped because FFT wasn’t in the set. Halloween is as good a reason as any.

There are 9 cards with extort that are not multicolor. Other cards with mana symbols in reminder text are Charmed Pendant, Trinisphere and Rise of Sozin / Firelord Sozin. So we are talking 12 ‘exceptions’ currently in all of Magic. Realistically it’s just Blind Obedience and Crypt Ghast.

If you want to play hybrid cards in your monocolored deck, you can discuss design philosophy in your rule 0 conversation. I think that asking an experienced player to do that is better than changing the rule and confusing a newer player.

I understand that in the world of game design hybrid and multicolor means something different. But I have a firm belief casual players don’t know that. They see mana symbols as a pretty straight forward rule. Extort and firebending complicate things a bit, but those aren’t near hybrid in number
