V interesting new substack from @peterhyman.bsky.social on what decent modern media management in govt should look like - and why the Grid is no longer the way to go peterhyman21.substack.com/p/revealed-h... (the lesson of Major era is, I think, hopeless division not great for media management)
Revealed: How the No 10 grid strangles effective communication
A government ‘playlist’ of campaigns could cut through more powerfully than an old-style grid of worthy policy nuggets

thanks a lot - think we need a playbook of campaigns to cut through the noise rather than a ‘one and done’ mentality of small policy launches.

This piece from @peterhyman.bsky.social is very good on why political parties need to focus less on crafting policy-based sound bites and press releases and more on making the argument for change

Compelling call @peterhyman.bsky.social for a new curriculum as a “landmark legacy” with “new basics including oracy.” @voice21oracy.bsky.social

This is very good on some of the many ways that our scandalous neglect of the 55% of British kids who don't want to go to university is coming back to bite us. From @peterhyman.bsky.social

@peterhyman.bsky.social is good on successful politics in a superficial world - grab people's attention, tell stories that they can engage with, persuade people you can get things done (actually getting things done not so important). All bloody depressing but ...

Trump: the teacher we can’t ignore
The American President is pioneering a new form of political communications. We must swallow our pride and learn from him.

I care deeply about this from my time as a headteacher. We must go beyond the exam factory model of education and give all students proper career pathways and hope. Without it we will fuel resentment and the rise of populism. My latest Substack. open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

Traditional communications is too bland. We need to learn from Trump about how to operate in the attention economy. Full substack here: open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

If the centre left wants to fightback against the populists, then it needs to learn from the way Trump communicates. Because at the moment we are lame and failing to understand the attention economy.

And this from @peterhyman.bsky.social - we don’t necessarily want to hear it, but a lot of what he says, I think, is right. We need to listen more and patronise less

My new substack today is about how to get things done in government and the big choice facing Starmer this autumn - business as usual in Whitehall- or dynamic mission-driven task forces. open.substack.com/pub/peterhym...

“We need a new ‘basics’ that includes #oracy (high-quality speaking) and digital skills … There is broad cross-party consensus that the exam system is distorting the curriculum. Radical reform is needed here too …”: @peterhyman.bsky.social @financialtimes.com [£]: www.ft.com/content/4a62...
