Exciting announcement!!

I’m running for Massachusetts State Senate for the Norfolk and Suffolk District of Massachusetts! I pledge to fight for the families in Boston, Dedham, Norwood, Walpole, and Westwood to build a fair economy where families—not billionaires—come first.

“For the government, revenue from taxing those borrowers is pennies,” [Yu] said. “But to borrowers, it’s the difference between medicine or food.”

A student loan forgiveness ‘tax bomb’ is coming. Thousands could face hefty bills in 2026. - The Boston Globe
The Trump administration has not extended an exemption from taxable income for some cancelled student debt.

As I told NPR’s Cory Turner, the Trump Administration is choosing to make life more expensive for millions at a time when student loan borrowers can least afford it. We need leaders who will stand up for real people and work to make the economy work for working families.

Millions of borrowers in Biden's SAVE plan would start paying under new settlement
Legal challenges put SAVE borrowers in limbo for months, a time during which they were not required to make payments on their loans. That would change if the proposed settlement is approved.

Over at @debtcollectionlab.bsky.social Bonnie Latraille and @persisyu.bsky.social published part 1 of a 3 part series on what's going on with student loan borrowers. Excellent Du Boisian visualization graphs by Jeff Himpele. Unfortunately, the news aren't good.

This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for the strength and generosity in our communities. As we celebrate, let’s remember that too many families across our country are facing food insecurity. No one should struggle to put meals on the table—on Thanksgiving or any day. 🧡

📚 What am I reading today?

A powerful piece from my friend and colleague, Army Veteran Patrick Campbell. He writes about bravery in its truest form — the kind that shows up when you’re ordered to do the wrong thing and choose to do what’s right anyway.

The cost of housing continues to skyrocket, squeezing the budgets of families, seniors, and veterans across the commonwealth. Meanwhile, Trump’s solution is a 50 year mortgage?!? 🤯

🇺🇸🇺🇸 Spent the day with veterans in Walpole and Norwood. I was honored to hear the stories of their service in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and local bases, and listened to their concerns about the economy, particularly the cost of housing and the challenges in our schools.

“The actions of these cities are legal,” says Persis Yu... What’s more, she says, “whether or not these activities are legal, is not a [determination] that the secretary of education has either the right or the expertise to be making.”

Beautiful weather for JP’s Open Street. Had a great time talking to community members about the issues top of mind--from the challenge of finding quality affordable childcare, to the threats to our democracy, to lego struggles. I’m running to bring all these voices to the state house.
