I don't really get this recent trend of paying to 'adopt' a character an artist has drawn. Well, I get it in the abstract, but don't get why it seems at least somewhat popular. But artists are also generally not super rich and I am all for a way for them to get money for drawing things they like!

I wonder if in 200 years whether our descendents living in a world made harsher and more inhospitable will see the ruins of the genAI datacenters and wonder why we ruined the Earth to make a crude facsimile of a person and art, when we could just speak to the people around us and see their art.

I have wondered for a while, after a bunch of acquisitions that seem generally terrible for any customer and consumer, if there are legal ways for people to force someone to sell a company or if it's just all swinging life changing amounts of money around and back-room deals.

Are we going to call all the gen AI that writes porn "degenerative AI"?

I saw a post a little while ago about something with a quote from someone basically saying nothing is as pithy or boring as a person talking about their dreams. My assumption was that it was about goals and aspirations than the dreams you have while being asleep, but either way it got me thinking.

I feel like if you ask parents if they would rather put a picture their children drew, or a gen AI image generated by a prompt their children wrote, they'll want to show off the picture the child drew. The point of art and media is the intent and craft that went into making it.

I hate that I explained the holodeck from Star Trek as "generative AI but 3D and good quality" and he understood it immediately. We could have done with Trek predicting this particular phenomena...

I'm staying with my parents while my apartment flooring is replaced due to water damage. Their toilet has a red bulb so when you turn it on at night it doesn't blast your eyes with harsh light. It's a good idea and gentler in the middle of the night. It also feels like the entrance to hell.

I'm not sure what the Bluesky team is expecting by trying to make this place more like Xitter. People left there for a *reason*, and Bluesky does not have the cultural inertia to Xitter built up to try to retain businesses and advertising.

Having seen the cost of my brother battling cancer 10 years ago, with the support of the Australian pharmaceutical benefits scheme I cannot imagine how much additionally awful it would be to be in the US and have to deal with that on top of dealing with the US healthcare system...

It's been wild to try and learn what everyone has been vague posting about today. I'm not too surprised that the CEO is trying to deflect the frustrations and criticisms of many people by silly posting.

I'm playing some more Endless Legend 2. This time I'll be starting a fresh run of the Tahuks again to practice the early game some more. I'm usually live every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening Australian time. Come watch or chat at: www.twitch.tv/periapsys

Sometimes bugs can lead to amusingly unintentional science fiction.

Given everything going on with the US and censoring anything queer or adult related, I'm beginning to think the Australian group was just an excuse by the payment processors and they just wanted to do this anyway.

I love playing X4 again and having the computer system voice tell me that I am targetting a Kha'ak Ravager but say "Cock Ravager".

Despite the masks we wear, I think deep down everyone wants to show their real self to other people. Events like these always seem to cause people who pretend to be civil and proper to let their real selves slip through the cracks. And it will probably keep happening.

I started making a mini side project to actually finish a game. Reflecting on it, I think there's a lot of space to play in when you have constraints. The giant sandbox with all the tools under the sun can be fun and bring much joy, but also we love just riding the slide from top to bottom.

I think the really fun thing about watching people try tabletop roleplaying for the first time, is so many have no preconceptions of what you should and should not do. They try unexpected and creative things because they don't know they "should" be attacking, or "should" be doing investigations.

I'm playing as the Flying Spaghetti Monster in a religious themed kart racer and my taunt as I pass the pope is "you Vatican't keep up!"

The struggle of trying to crystalise a simple thought and idea into a simple concise statement is fascinating to me. It's also perhaps made harder by my ADHD, because I don't think the same way as many people so what's simple and evident to me can be an opaque mystery to others.

I was thinking about the whole news about Kevin MacLeod using ai to make music in the past six months or more and I was thinking about using LLMs in music. I'm still against it, but I do think that gen ai would be better at generating music than it would with art because music is all maths.

It's fascinating listening to some of the earliest Japanese songs I heard from Anime when I was young. I had absolutely no understanding of the language back then and misheard everything. Now I experience that nostalgia and actually understand part of it in contradiction to all of my memories of it.

These Isacharii are culinary savants, honestly. Wet salt has a terrible mouth feel, but dried salt? Much better.

Seeing as I found that the group behind the adult games and payment processor issue is an Australian charity, as a citizen I registered my concern that they have violated charity status. A charity should not be using their money to pressure international companies and organisations.
