It's kind of a bummer to find out Riz Ahmed is an idiot. I am choosing to frame as desperate disillusionment right now...b/c his accent makes him sound smart

@legaleagle.tv This is admittedly a fairly cynical question but one asked earnestly and in good faith: What is the point of you, if rule of law does not apply to the disproportionately powerful, and privileged few?
someththing, something die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
The world might be dog shit, but movies are hitting right now. #Thunderbolts using superheroes tropes to talk authentically about mental health and Nihilism. #Sinners using genre films to make high art metaphors about #Black identity history and music.

I blame @jamesgunn.bsky.social / #JordanPeele
Show me another profession where the EMPLOYEES are expected to come out of pocket to provide the office supplies for the populations they serve and l'll kick you square in the nuts.
Yesterday, I saw a lady
standing alone,
waiting for the bus
and wearing
a black trucker hat
that said
"Make Money Not Friends"
and I wondered
How did it all go so wrong for her?
Sometimes I come up with funny little jokes or whatever and I'll tell one to my partner w/ a tag on the the puncline like...
"I have a degree in this... " cause I do and she'll just cry.

We're very poor.

@gamechangershow.bsky.social Episode One is some of the BEST GODDAMN TV OF MY LIFE.

I'm struggling with money and I almost didn't renew for another year. Fucking worth it.
It was like Avengers Endgame, how everything came together.

Bravo.
I do believe ur goal is not gentrification & such is the problem of that system. No one's trying to push people out their home. It's the nature of white supremacy that decides for you that if you're here, they can't be. This is my fear.
My goal isn't gentrification, it's exploration of commonalities in contemporaneous music. Prog soul doesn't erase the existence of other categorizations, it just gives us a new lens to appreciate this art. I don't want to replace existing conversations, I want to add a new dimension & perspective.
@polyphonic.nebula.tv One calls something “Progressive” to draw a line btwn what they perceive as standard & what goes outside of that. I assert that the distinction “progressive soul” is flawed. All soul music was by definition progressive in execution, message & scope to the standard of the time.
@polyphonic.nebula.tv You make mention of Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes pushing “boundaries” but their musical and artistic choices were never outside of the soul tradition. There has ALWAYS been complexity in soul music as a natural extension from rich gospel and jazz arrangements.
@polyphonic.nebula.tv What you seem to be proposing is a gentrification of a historical understanding of soul music. A reframing of a folk art by outsiders of the of the community which produced and classified the art originally, in order to fit the outsiders flawed understanding of the art itself.

@polyphonic.nebula.tv At the end of your intro, you say it’s really exciting for you because it means that “all of us” get to be an active part of a conversation that’s redefining how we understand music history and then you show a video of a sea of exclusively white faces.

@polyphonic.nebula.tv I love that you are giving these artist their flowers for being innovators in popular music and you are one of my favorite creators and a central reason for my lifetime Nebula membership but I feel you are committing the sin of not being aware of your own lens.

@polyphonic.nebula.tv So I have a criticism about the beginning of “We Need To Talk About Progressive Soul” but I’m not looking to trash it but share what came up for me…

Democrats need to raise their fucking standards. Her weak tea, centrist ass is how we got into this shit in the first place.

We deserve better.
Your afternoon reminder that Kamala was right about everything.

I actually really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the sequel. Why does it feel like its wrong to admit this aloud?
Y'all trippin. The new #CaptainAmerica is pretty good. Sorry I every doubted you @bobchipman.bsky.social
"You broke my heart Ryan Gosling, so now I'm gonna use my institutional power to repeatedly set you on fire and slam you into a wall."
"I'm sorry our situationship didn't work out, Emily Blunt. Our bosses incompetence broke my spine, but no. You're right. Fling me into a rock wall again." TF?
