Anyway, all this is to say that Lis sees Fordola as a living Records Tome of her memories, and Fordola is spared in part because Lis is too vain to kill a piece of herself (even her memories within Fordola).

Fordola tries to explain the experience to Jullus one day, when she thinks they're alone:

"Imagine a world as if lit in backdrop by incandescent, holy fire — colors more vivid than any you could ever think — bitter edges sweetened as strawberries are — such power crowning her every step, such pain she holds as close in her memory as the brightest loves — yet to her, it is a sacrament in its own right — I lack, still, the words to explain how all to her is sacrament, how all of her existence is aglow with a formless flame we are lucky to be merely warmed by and not burned alive within."

Thank you so, so much for asking!!! It is so deeply near and dear to my heart tbh!!! Playing Crow Locke on camera helped me figure out vital stuff about my gender and gain a lot of catharsis/heal from some really deep-rooted trauma, so I'm always going to adore its whole deal.

Plus, there's a lot regarding its identity horror struggles with being unable to forget /anything/, how it unlearns the brainwashing its abuser tried to put upon it to figure out what it wants for itself, its codependent platonic dynamic with the person who saved its life, etc. that I just adore.

After all, as a human, it didn't even know if it was going to live past 18 — so getting that second chance at life, and honoring it as much as possible by making those who would ruin that second chance pay, is a huge part of Crow Locke's whole deal.

It wants so badly to know the world it was locked away from, and there is still so, so much long life ahead of it considering it's been returned from the dead, and a part of its nature is very Azem-esque in its desire to be a traveler.

It wants that as reclamation.

I think the thing that gets me the most emotional about Crow Locke in a good way is just... like, underneath all the edginess of its design and all of the sheer vindictive rage it wears on its sleeve in the series proper, it wants so badly to live and know the world in ways it was denied as a human.

Fondly remembering the eldritch goddess in my original worldbuild whose worshippers all act as one big mutual aid network. She's the goddess of Flesh, Family, and Space and her name is Cil'hishran, and I love her very much. She does so much good in the world that I respect.
