If China conquers Taiwan, the US will lose access to the factories that produce the world's most advanced semiconductors, with severe repercussions for the military and the US and world economy in general. And those powerful chips would now be available to China, to further enhance its military.

In addition, Xi Jinping has order his military to prepare to invade Taiwan by 2027. China now has now the world’s largest armed forces. According to a recent NY Times editorial the Chinese military now rivals the United States in air, naval and missile power. Can the US win a war with China?

But there are many other military challenges facing the US and the West now and the near future. First is war in Ukraine. Putin wants to reconstitute the old USSR. That means attacks on NATO allies Poland and the Baltic States. If Trump does not support NATO, then NATO won't support the US

The gulags were Soviet forced labor camps that imprisoned untold millions of people during Stalin’s reign, mostly for political offenses or members of ethnic minorities. Gulag prisoners worked under very harsh conditions, with tens of thousands dying each year from malnutrition and execution.
