Stanford is doing whatever it takes to get parents riled up against teachers. I support striking for better wages & conditions cos I know the alternative is that my kid's teachers will vote with their feet and either leave the profession or leave NZ for countries where they are better valued.

We're guessing it's only new immigrants who are taking up these jobs because their circumstances are dire and the pay and conditions are not acceptable to others. But yeah blame the unions.

My husband had an operation today at Middlemore, he interacted with around 12 skilled medical and support staff, ALL were of Asian descent and he guessed none were NZ born, that's no Maori, Pasifika or Pakeha staff.

I'm not big on forcing people to do things, however it would improve our democracy and the education around candidates.

Should we be considering compulsory voting?

They both must be horrified at what has become of the National party, any heart it had was lost when Finlayson left. Palmer was my constitutional law lecturer back in the early 90s, he was brilliant then and still fighting the good fight.

The biggest shock to me reading through that article was 1) that Jami-Lee Ross had the audacity to stand as a candidate and 2) that anyone voted for him at all!

National/ACT Coalition government spends over $100,000 a year on a road cone hotline that increasingly hardly anyone uses - with each call leading to less than one road cone removed.

And they took this funding from real worksafe work

After 5 months of the heralded ‘tipline’, just 204 road cones are confirmed gone
In Whanganui, information from the Government’s own Road Cone Tipline had actually led to more cones being put out than taken away. In Wellington, 110 complaints resulted in just two cones being remov...

I, for one, am more than happy for the AI industry to be basically destroyed by preserving intellectual and artistic property rights. No downside.

It's the perfect filter date, if you know you couldn't be with someone who wasn't an avid reader, that is.

My now husband took me on a date to Borders which ended in a surprise Finn Brothers concert at the Civic in 2005. It was the best date of my life.

Wonder what Mister "The world doesn't owe you a living" Luxon would be doing if the Fifth Labour Government had said that to Air New Zealand in 2001 instead of writing a $900m bail-out cheque.

Oh, I keep forgetting - Market Forces for Thee and Thine, Corporate Welfare for Me and Mine! #nzpol

God look at them, they're absolutely loving this, what evil people.

The unintended consequence will be a drop in birthrate and more of our youth escaping to Australia where there are jobs. Bizarre that that's what this government seems to want?!

Unemployment has increased by 50,000 since he’s been Prime Minister. That’s 50,000 families affected.

Luxon is just giving up his responsibility as Prime Minister for his citizens - to look tough against people who are trying their best.

Where are the jobs?

My eldest has already made his way to Sydney (and is thriving), my other 2 will probably only stay long enough to get a degree and they'll be gone too. Not what we thought life would look like for our family.

I think the Greens are pretty strong on Te Tiriti too, they'll have my vote, for the first time, at the next election.

Yep and a casual role, so no actual guaranteed hours. Madness!

Thanks, now I hate him just a little bit more than I did yesterday. My son recently got a casual part time job at Pak n Save, there were 150 applicants! it was dumb luck because he had contacts in the store, that's what school leavers are up against, I doubt his sister will find it so easy.

Will the brave military men and women of the USA have the guts to resign en masse in the face of Trump, Hegseth et al, or are their pensions and benefits more important to them?
