Original Cast Album: Company is an amazing documentary if you like Company, great 70’s haircuts and outfits, Sondheim looking hot as all hell or people singing some of the greatest musical songs ever written all whilst smoking endlessly.

A selection of images from games etc. Hannah Nicklin has worked on, a screencap or key art image from: Saltsea Chronicles, Black Mirror: Thronglets, Mutazione; and the cover of Writing for Games: Theory & Practice. Also featured two reviews.

One from Eurogamer: 5/5 Saltsea Chronicles
"Onwards you go in pursuit of your missing crew, then, your story diverging further from mine with every island choice, with every flick of the head or settling of the lips. Memories/Artefacts? Skeptical/Curious? And astonishingly, through all these moving parts, all this phase space, my story still made rich sense, and actually built to a truly devastating climax.

Scream/Weep? Fittingly, for me, Saltsea Chronicles turned out to be a story about choices as well as a story made of choices. It made me think about the big decisions I make in life, but also the decisions that shape a life that I don't even notice having made. Ripples turning to waves and all that. You must play this. It's luminous."

The second of Mutazione from Gamespew, 9/10
"Mutazione is a game that builds up relationships within a community you instantly feel a part of. The main story is secondary to the real drama and the heart of the town, but it’s necessary. It’s extremely well-written, and the hand-drawn environments are beautifully designed. Die Gute Fabrik has crafted a sweet, powerful fairy tale that delves into the human psyche and allows you to reside there for five hours or so." A virtual biz card on a dark purple background, featuring an image of a white woman in glasses, with blonde hair, speaking at a podium. Next to it is the title Hannah Nicklin, and the details Creative Director, Narrative Lead/Designer, Senior Writer, Consultant.

If your idle/clicker game opens fullscreen by default you've already fucked up.

You are for the second screen in a little window lads, not the big monitor.

Tell that to the subjects of the King Of The Allotments.

I’d hire them for any work for sure

Hopefully roofing falls in The King Of The Allotments’ domain.

I was recommended a tradesperson for a job that needs doing on my house, the people who recommended him kept calling him The King Of The Allotments.

Unsure if that’s his business name or not.

I enjoy that these are being posed as difficult questions by The Guardian -
A screenshot from a Guardian article -

"So what should performers and audiences do when events that they love fall into the hands of organisations that they hate? And should private equity even be allowed near underground culture?"

I like Stephen King’s short story “The Jaunt” a lot, but I think it ought to be classed as a novella really. It’s longer than you think.

Livid to see they made the British editions of Ryu Murakami books drop the "How To Draw Manga books from The Works" aesthetic.
A collage of books by Ryu Murakami showing some older versions of his books In The Miso Soup, Piercing and Audition with really generic and poorly drawn anime ladies on the front.

Below there are two of the new editions of In The Miso Soup and Audition which look like contemporary litfic books with bold colours and minimalist designs.

Back from paternity leave today and what a truly great first email to open up.

Work's back baby and it's good again.
A screenshot of an email with the heading "Please direct this letter to Ricky Haggett (Founder and Creative Director)."

The body of the email is an incomprehensible screed about a game idea (I think) where you control a space ship with your thoughts, neuro-link, vibe generators, the Metaverse and the Matrix and how Ricky, my boss, needs to discuss this idea with Elon Musk.

Relief, very funny but my god I’m tired.

I’ve been trying to find that amazing Tiktok video of a shop in the Netherlands I think that sells massive paintings of gorillas smoking cigars and holding AK47s and gold plated bottles of Jack Daniels because this exhibition has the same exact same energy.

One very charming and funny thing though is that all hot drinks must be carried in an old chocolate tub in case a child runs into you.
A cup of tea in a red mug that is also currently in a plastic Celebrations tin.

My child is ill and I’m completely frazzled mentally but actually maybe it’s time to shift a few pounds.

The only reading material in the parent’s room in the children’s hospital ward we’re on is a copy of Slimming World magazine and I can’t understand the thought process behind that choice.

Final Fantasy X enemies in the veg box this week.
My hand holding up a Romanesco broccoli, a cauliflower that is made up of lots of weird fractal looking fronds that are a beautiful light green colour. A Ragora from Final Fantasy X.

A plant enemy that looks like a Romanesco broccoli but evil.

Sitting next to the MRI machine doing 50 minutes of scans on your 7 week old daughter is perhaps the worst experimental noise gig of your life.
