Food Eponym Fridays! Can you guess this histologic finding? 🤔

It's one of the hallmark findings of a rare lymphoproliferative disorder. What other histologic hallmark features go along with this?

This is a lot more scientific than my answer 😂.

I believe (recalling my forensics rotations a while back now), it is due to gravity separating the RBCs from plasma, giving the distinct look.

Key learning point here of course is differenting postmortem clots from antemortem thombi.

Thanks!
Excellent!

Bonus points: how do they form to give this distinct gross morphology?
Food Eponym Fridays!

Pathologists love using food analogies to describe findings. These culinary comparisons make complex patterns easier to recognize and remember.

Today's clues are below. Can you guess this postmortem finding?

🔬 Even Santa's checking specimens today! Looks like I'm not the only one on-call this week.

To all healthcare heroes working the holiday shift: THANK YOU!

And to everyone else: may your day be merry, bright, and free of unusual lab results!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy holiday season!
Ever wonder what 'clock face' chromatin looks like? Look for blotchy, dark areas around a nucleus.

This feature, along with eccentric nuclei and paranuclear hof (pale area near the nucleus), are essential for identifying plasma cells in blood films, aspirate, and histologic samples.
Radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer are relatively common specimens to receive in the gross lab.

Check out a gross anatomy session on RadP's. We go through inking, anatomy, and sectioning these interesting specimens.

In grossing, we often talk about the "money" section - ie. the most important section to take. Here it is for placenta accreta in this case.

A quick mnemonic to remember Placenta Accreta Spectrum disorders. It's in the name: AIP! Accreta attaches, increta invades, and percreta perforates.

Bit late to the post, but agree with pertussis/reactive lymphs. I often have to stress to our techs, to take a step back with "baby lymphs“ as they can look scary.

A bone saw is tremendously helpful for dealing with bone and cartilagenous specimens in the lab.
