There’s a distinct possibility that 🍊´s fight with Venezuela is about increasing oil prices the world over, which would help the struggling US economy and help fund Russia’s war on Ukraine.

🍊´s comment on the killing of the Reiners is not just vile, it’s a message to his base that the victims had it coming for opposing him. It’s a blank check to his supporters to act with violence against whomever thinks differently then 🍊. Legitimizing political violence should be disqualifying!

If republicans have a good idea for a health plan, why didn’t they publish one a decade ago when 🍊 promised it? Why didn’t 🍊 implement one during his first term? Why didn’t the GOP act while they hold both houses of Congress? If they had a plan that would win them votes, we would have it already!

While the US government is trying to undermine universities, Canada has just announced a $1.7B program to attract top scientists, with a special invitation to neighbours south of the border…and its already working. This is what happens when you betray your friends.

In a post US world order, Russia and China are competing for dominance. China’s purchase of Russian oil during the war in Ukraine is about keeping Russia in the fight so it spends itself to ruin, leaving China to dominate Central Asia.

Is someone going to explain geology to 🍊? Maybe explain that potash is concentrated in Canada and not in the US. That the US needs cheap Canadian potash to sustain it’s agriculture? That it imports 80% of it from Canada? That the US cannot draw the same quantities from it’s ground?

It’s time for Moldova to become part of Romania with instant access to the EU and NATO, while giving Romania the opportunity to expel Russian troops from Transnistria.

As science progresses, the gap between the knowledge and understanding of the average person and that of the leading edge scientists grows. This gap creates estrangement and distrust even as science makes everyone’s life better. Eventually, the common man rebels against the best of humanity.

The new US security policy is nothing short of an abdication. In a post-US world order, the game for control of the world; to establish a new order is on. Such pivots in the world order always lead to wars for control. The EU has never been so relevant!

The US-brokered peace plan for Ukraine is not a piece plan. If adopted, it will be the premise of more conflict in Europe with a reinforced Russia.

Canada has banned assault-style long guns and all handguns. A buyback program is launched this Fall with an amnesty period till October 2026. After that, owning a banned weapon will lead to criminal charges. Australia and New Zealand have done the same. To our US neighbours…see, this can be done.

Justice is a human process and, therefore, imperfect. No one should deliver through an imperfect process an irreversible ruling. The death penalty is illogical.

Any territorial concession to 🇷🇺 would be a grave strategic mistake! It would validate the aggression and rehabilitate the expansion of borders by force.

Taking a hard look at how white straight men have voted in the west in the last decade…I would be willing to give up my right to vote for few cycles if it meant we would have the kind of results that a women-only vote would have generated over the last ten years.

I didn’t foresee it would controversial to say: vaccines work and don’t cause autism, earths is round, tarifs are a taxe, moon is real and we walked on it, plane don’t spread chemical, 5 G doesn’t cause cancer or Covid, socialism isn’t communism, Russia invaded Ukraine, January 6 was a crime.

For all her craziness, MTG seems to be slowly discovering that she is a closet libertarian and that Trump is not.

When Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’sTail, I don’t think she knew how much of a premonition of the USA under MAGA it was. I wonder what she feels about reality challenging our best dystopian fantasies.

Easy end to Ukrainian war. Russia goes home. UN establishes DMZ on border. Ukrainian Russian-speaking oblasts get special status with power over culture and education, Russian and Ukrainian are official languages there. Both parties recognize their borders and sovereignty.

The Nobel Foundation looks rather dimly on those who actively campaign for a peace prize. It chooses recipients who tend to honestly believe that they are unworthy as a testament to there altruistic nature. Claiming you deserve the prize is the best way to ensure you will not receive it.

There’s one good side to the current state of the world: teaching about non-democratic concepts has gotten easier, what with all the examples around.

Did Trump see some dystopian post-apocalyptic movie and someone told him it was Portland?

Just curious, if the President of the USA was setting up a dictatorship, how would that look any different than what is currently happening?

The Socratic saying « The more I know, the more I understand that I know nothing » seems to work in reverse as well. The less some know, the more the feel omniscient. Confident ignorami will be the end of civilization if we can’t make real knowledge popular again.

Kirk’s assassination I regret, his absence not so much. He promoted and organized violence against anyone who stood against white supremacy, gun culture of Christian nationalism. He had hit lists of folks for his horde to threaten their lives and livelihood. He was a despicable person.

It’s strange that the government set up in the USA by the party that constantly decries « socialism » and « communism » looks more and more like Soviet Russia at it’s worst.
