🐸An experimental, wandering, out of synch video I made to accompany the Calefax Reed Quintet's great recording of my piece, Ranae. Taken while listening on my headphones in the brilliance of the afternoon light on a hillside full of wild flowers underneath Fort St. Jean in Villeneuve lez Avignon.🐸

'...shaking a few pitiful drops on the flames. It’s sad how little it accomplishes. The forest just crackles in response, louder each time.

From the shadows, the big animals, the ones who supposedly matter, the elephant, the tiger, the bear, watch like jaded spectators. They heckle. They lecture.'

Speaking of theatrical influencing... lol... if society decides to erase your contributions - there's always its echoing consequences and influences.🙄

Tom Stoppard's '93 play, Arcadia, a play about order and chaos, saved lives by inspiring medical revelation:😎

Leon Theremin, told The New York Times in 1927 that his “apparatus,” which he believed could produce an unprecedented range of tonal colors and sounds, “frees the composer from the despotism of the 12-note tempered piano scale, to which even violinists must adapt themselves.”

We had Thanksgiving in Mamou once at a Cajun composer's house that I'd met at LSU. Elsie spoke French the whole dinner once she got used to its older styles. Mamou is famous for its masked Mardi Gras tradition of going door to door on horseback demanding a live chicken for a communal feast.🐓

Not because of victories
I sing,
having none,
but for the common sunshine,
the breeze,
the largess of the spring.
Not for victory
but for the day's work done
as well as I was able;
not for a seat upon the dais
but at the common table.

"Te Deum"
Charles Reznikoff

Happy Thanksgiving!

A mockingbird just surprised us by flying around my legs, below my knees, showing off with a worm in its mouth as we walked back from the pool. They see us every day at dawn and seem to recognize us after 4 years. #Miami birds have it easy w/palm gardens on top of every parking garage. 😎🦜

Saw this yesterday and it's both bizarrely banal and brutal in how one moment they're talking about addictive shelling, than transactional shelling, and the next, the end of life on Sanibel; it becomes a funeral procession. 'This film transforms from a celebration of shelling into a...'😪

Carter intoduced me to Braxton and every time after that when I saw him at a concert, classical or jazz, we'd chat. He knew I was just a grad student... but a super respectful guy.
In my first week of college Anthony Braxton told me the future of the universe depended on my playing the accordion in his ensemble. (true story!)

I was 7, in first grade, Lake City, FL. We were let out of school, everybody was crying, my father picked me up and I asked him, 'What does it mean?' and with tears in his eyes he said, 'It's the end of the world, WWIII.' He thought Russia had done it. We all witnessed Oswald getting shot live, too.
A real President ……….

Sixty-two years ago today, November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. He was shot while riding in an open-top car and died later at Parkland Hospital. The event, which occurred at 12:30 p.m. CST, was a moment of national tragedy.
