Since 2015, Parakeet has drawn nearly 4000 glyphs for our clients.

🏛️ We’ve been making some really nice app icons lately. Here’s one we think you’ll like, for a database app called Base. And how about that dark mode version?

⏸️ To focus on our brand new blog, we’re pausing Icon of the Day at this time. 128 seemed like a good number to rest on.

Thank you so much for exploring a sample of our portfolio wth us for the last 128 days.

Today is the 128th Icon of the Day! To celebrate such a nice, classic icon number, we’re celebrating with this really fun disco ball from the 285 glyphs we created for Patreon. It’s so abstracted from the actual object, yet still recognizable!

A little while ago, we crafted a full set of chess glyphs for Deep Green on iOS. Each one was meticulously drawn from its 3D model in the app, with special care to clearly indicate their relative hierarchy in the lineup.

We don’t get to draw a fingerprint icon too often. But for Dailymotion, we needed one for biometric settings. It’s more airy / less dense than typically seen in other apps to match the overall vibe of this set of 187 icons.

One of 56 emoji we created for the Playdate Developer Forum. Everyone needs a spa day, even Playdate. Kick back, pop in those cucumbers, and relax.

*Do not actually put cucumbers on your Playdate, probably. That might not be covered by the warranty.

The twelfth day of Christmas. A few years ago we created this app icon for theDrumDictionary, with a simple overhead glyph depicting a drum and a pair of drumsticks resting on a cheerful, playful, and colorful background.

The eleventh day of Christmas. Primaries is our stock icon set of 784 icons !⃝, available for only $100. In 2016, we added some instruments including this clarinet, which can also represent woodwinds as a whole.

The tenth day of Christmas. When we made 159 icons for Nike, we took many opportunities to tie metaphors back to the brand. For this glyph, we incorporated a basketball jersey as an alternate.

The ninth day of Christmas. For Messenger’s 331 icons, several were of people. Compositions included solo, as a pair, and in a group. In addition to gendered figures with hairstyles (like this feminine glyph), we also created a figure without hair.

The eighth day of Christmas. In 2023, Parakeet made 24 icons for a Weber accessory that would display glyphs at a smaller, fuzzier resolution. This cow was drawn with that in mind, simplifying shapes down to simple angles and a blockier form.

The seventh day of Christmas. Among Magic Passport’s 552 icons, there are two hotels that differ from the others. The Swan and Dolphin were designed by Michael Graves. They feature enormous sculptures on top, which were very useful to make glyphs.

The sixth day of Christmas. Egg emoji vary significantly across vendors. When we created 964 emoji for Facebook, to reduce any possible ambiguity for recognition, the egg we made is brown with speckles.

The fifth day of Christmas. For the June oven, we made 108 illustrations over the years, like these baked apple rings in a very appetizing golden color. A few fruit and vegetables are presented this way to highlight different angles for those foods.

The fourth day of Christmas. *Calling* birds. Get it? Okay. This is one of the 964 emoji illustrations we made for Facebook, in our first year working on that project. Unlike other telephone emoji, this one has all 12 buttons on the face.

The third day of Christmas. For Notion, we made a whopping 876 glyphs, including a small set of animals. This chicken was—surprisingly—not the only chicken glyph we created for a client last year. But this one is distinctly geometric.

The second day of Christmas. For Junior Hanafuda, we drew this pair of sparrows, which are commonly seen in wintry scenes accompanying bamboo. Only at a glance are they symmetrical, which is a fun, small detail.

The first day of Christmas. This beautiful pear illustration was drawn by Luka a few years ago—just for fun—as part of a “Nook Produce” set of 6, with other fruit and bells from Animal Crossing. You can download them all for your Mac.

Merry Christmas! In Notion’s set of 876 icons, we got to tackle holidays: fireworks and chocolate boxes, jack-o-lanterns and menorahs. This Christmas tree was really just a matter of strategically decorating the conifer icon with three circles. Done.

Luka always loves to draw snacks. In late 2014, they drew 5 Christmas cookies which were later upscaled for an iMessage sticker app containing 63 snack emoji. Isn’t that subtly wavy frosting imperfectly perfect?

For a complex object with limited space, it’s a little tempting to draw a snowflake the same way as the last time, but every one of ours is unique. We’re quite fond of this one for Quill, one of 170 total glyphs made for the project.

Symbolically, kiri (柳: paulownia) is used quite extensively in Japan, including as the face of the ¥500 coin. It’s also one of 39 icons we created for Junior Hanafuda to represent the month of December.
