What an amazing @illibraryassoc.bsky.social conference! I’m so proud of the work done by the planning committee, awed by all the ILA staff efforts, and grateful for the speakers, presenters, and attendees—you made this conference wonderful. #ILAAC25

Thank you for electing me president.

Thanks! Gonna delete my post!
This was so much fun to do. Dilla has amazing stories.
Day 2 of #ILAAC25. Excited for conversation with @6figga-dilla.bsky.social and a special screening of The Librarians!

Dilla’s Bronzeville tour was amazing. He’s brilliant and funny and knows so much about Chicago history, especially the history of the city’s south side. When you visit Chicago, check it out—it’s a great time!

#ILAAC starts today! Looking forward to three days of learning and camaraderie!
I am constantly confusing those two. I just say No Country for Blood to cover them both. (And no, I haven’t watched either.)

My voice will not be silenced. I am the daughter of an immigrant. I am furious.

The invasion of my second hometown is illegal.

Deleted a RT of a reporter’s summary of JB’s comments about the Texas National Guard. This is what was actually said.

In the coming days, we expect to see what has played out in Los Angeles and Washington, DC. To happen here in Chicago, first Donald Trump is positioning armed federal agents and staging military vehicles on federal property, such as the Great Lakes Naval base. It is likely those agents will be with ice Customs and Border Patrol, the Department of Homeland Security and other similarly situated federal agencies. [...]
Many of these individuals are being relocated from Los Angeles for deployment in Chicago. We believe that staging that has already begun started yesterday and continues into today. Second, unidentifiable agents in unmarked vehicles with masks are planning to raid Latino communities and say they're targeting violent criminals, as we saw in Los Angeles, a very, very small percentage of the individuals they will target will be violent criminals. [...]
We have reason to believe that Stephen Miller chose the month of September to come to Chicago because of celebrations around Mexican Independence Day that happen here every year. It breaks my heart to report that we have been told ICE will try and disrupt community picnics and peaceful parades.
Let's be clear, the terror and cruelty is the point not the safety of anyone living here. Third, as lawful citizens exercise their First Amendment rights, Trump and his team will be looking for any excuse to put active duty military on our streets, supposedly to protect ICE. [...]
We are ready to fight troop deployments in court, and we will do everything possible to ensure that agents operating inside the confines of this state do so in a legal and ethical manner.

THEY VOTED TO RESTORE THE IMLS FUNDING.

This isn't the end. It's nowhere near the end. But the House and Senate subcommittees voted to restore the IMLS in their budget markups.

Full House budget markup is tomorrow.
The House subcommittee marking up the budget containing the IMLS meets *tonight* at 5 pm eastern.
