Palisade, Colorado, makes an excellent adventure hub. You can hike the Colorado National Monument, search for wild mustangs in the Book Cliff range, and ski at Powderhorn Resort to ski. I did all that - plus visit distillery, eat great food and more. Photos by Pam LeBlanc

Know anybody who has cancer? Died of it?
We all do. I'm infuriated by the new administration's slash and burn response to federal funding for medical research. We've all benefitted from medical research - and we'll all suffer from these cuts.

The campground at Pedernales Falls State Park reopened last month after upgrades to the water system. I zipped over last to do a little hiking and bird watching. Photos by Pam LeBlanc

Big changes are coming to Big Bend. Starting May 1, access to the Chisos Basin at Big Bend National Park will shut down for a construction project, and you won't be able to access the Window Trail or the Lost Mine Trail or even hike to the South Rim Trail from the basin. Check out options here.
Eight Great Hikes Off the Beaten Path in Big Bend National Park
Starting May 1, visitors to Big Bend won’t be able to access some of its most popular trails. But there's so much more to explore.

Honestly, who WOULDN'T want to bike/hike/ride a horse 1,500 miles across the belly of the Lone Star State, stopping for barbecue, Shiner Bock and a little two-stepping along the way? Read my story about the XTX Trail at www.shermanstravel.com/.../new-stat....
