Every morning we open a window to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and share some of its special qualities, like this view of moorland at Oxnop in Swaledale.

'October Gold', John Atkinson Grimshaw, 1889. There was a terrific exhibition of his work on at Scarborough Art Gallery when I was there to do the Grimms talk with artist Chris Wood; they were hung well and their atmosphere travelled well, as it did with Chris' eerie art.

My #MyLiftToTheSky this week goes out to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk itself.

You've been an inspiration to me as a writer, enabling me to accept the grit within my work. I have explored more facets of myself as a person thru #poemsabout than I could’ve possibly imagined.

Still relatively new to indie lit - but still haven’t come across anything quite like the lens of @thebrokenspine.co.uk 👇

You usually have to be signed up to our newsletter to read it. However, this week is too important, and I wanted to share it more broadly.

#MickHerron leaves this reader feeling like one of Lamb's cigarettes, battered, splayed & uncertain of fate. Not many authors have me laughing out loud on one page & crying the next. #ClownHouse is the work of a canny lad (genius).

I'm lined up for a Skosh lunch after the early Christmas shop in November, a walk home along the river is what should follow but suspect it will be stagger to an Ace cab. 👌

Ahh. Loose cannons. That's tough... on everyone.

Unseemly eh? Perish the thought. I'm cackling with laughter at the chutzpah.

No.. Managed to miss that one. 🙃

Good morning! I wasn't going to do this prompt for #PoemsAbout #imperfectMe but started writing it yesterday @paulwritespoems.bsky.social writing group. It's still rough. Thanks as always to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk
Poem:

Still Standing

The scar on my right breast
a faint tracing,
the charcoal under the artist’s paint,

tattooed dots,
ellipsis signaling the story continues—

always a before
and an after--

so far, always an after--

the sagging of flesh, the greying of hair,
points for endurance, if not for style,

as vain as anyone, I suppose,
but embracing the imperfect,
me.

I love the fusion of ellipsis and the surgeon's dotted line... also that it is morning where you are.

Blimey. All thanks to those people who are critical friends.. thank you for a close reading, much appreciated.
