Lover of Dark Castle and C= computers. There is great humor to be found in assigning the utmost importance to those things which do not remotely deserve it. https://www.youtube.com/@pacbilly

And sometimes the external drives will disconnect for no apparent reason, and everything that depends on what you have there will hiccup. External drives require vigilance. And don't even get me started on symlinking. Most users won't even know how.

And let's say you create a second Music or Photos library outside your home folder. If you ever launch those apps while the external drive isn't plugged in, it'll default back to the one in your home folder, and before you know it you'll have two of each library with files missing from each.

But most won't know to change things from their default locations. The Applications folder, for instance, can fill up a 256-gig drive all by itself. Even things like cloud storage, Dropbox and whatnot, are being stored within your library folder by default.

The first thing I did was turn off the voice acting. That helps a lot.

I feel the same way about baseball stats.

It introduces a lot of great ideas, spells and mechanics, but it constantly robs you of opportunities to use them, through the snares or arbitrary requirements for dungeon entry. Always in the most annoying ways. The player is abandoned by fun from the first dungeon, and the two are never reunited.

I tried progressives that went from reading glass lenses to no magnification, and every time I went from looking down to looking up, it was every bit as nauseating as the Oculus Rift's VR roller coaster.

Every time I have the luxury of seeing my phone screen through a pair of reading glasses, I’m reminded, as though I’d forgotten entirely, how crisp it’s all meant to be. Then when I try to look at literally anything else, instant nausea. We need prescription phone glass that changes the focus.

Only two: Choose Bernard, if for no other reason than continuity with Day of the Tentacle. And if you're standing around in the drained pool and you hear the alarm, take it seriously.

Those of us who catch his streams have witnessed @golgo13.bsky.social finish it several times. The 2024 QoL-tweaked revision is highly recommended.

Maniac Mansion can be counted among the elite few C64 games I've actually beaten. I probably enjoyed Zak McKracken more, but I wound up getting stuck well into that one. Both were great fun, and Mansion had a cracking theme. My brother was using it as the basis for a backing track to rap over.

Every so often, someone drops a hint that they've read my YT video descriptions. Most folks make videos to make videos or to make money. I make them chiefly for what's written beneath.

If you're a subscriber, are you among those who read them? You'll know why I ask soon enough.

It's shock and horror at all the swears I was shouting on level 35.

Years ago I wrote an InsideMacGames review for a fruit machine game where I outlined the three-step process:

1. Click to pull lever.
2. Lose.
3. Repeat steps one and two.

If ever we needed a someone to weigh in on a new release, the someone is @logrus.uk and the release is daves-retro-forge.itch.io/bubble-bobbl...

The upgrades aren't just cosmetic, and 2-button support coming in ver 1.1, but we need the master's take on 1.0. I expect a video on my desk by morning.

@golgo13.bsky.social You mentioned the Super Bubble Bobble mode. Well here it is, right in the manual.

You've issued similar entreaties before. I shall watch, once I figure out where and how. Maybe they'll turn up on Kanopy. Regardless, I still hold fast to the notion that Dark Star will forever be Dan O'Bannon's greatest work. The beach ball scene could use some trimming, but otherwise a fun time.

This was back when he was going by the full Benjamin. You know, back when he was just a severed foot, before the rest of a person grew out from him.
