I received these charming direct messages on Instagram today for the sin of condemning the celebration of political violence.

For what it’s worth… I condemn all violence based on creed, race, sexuality, eye color, hair color, weight, movie tastes, etc etc etc.

I posted what I thought was a legitimate critique of the graphic design of a poster with ZERO ulterior motives, and people on social media came out of the woodwork to attack me and imply that I was a racist.

Social media can be a cesspool sometimes.

Post deleted/Lesson learned.

If you see any of your followers celebrating violence against someone just because they disagree with that person’s IDEAS…

Unfollow them.

And block them.

That relentless abusive inner dialogue is familiar to me too. Therapy helped me to understand its origin and how to fight back.

Every time depression or impostor syndrome tries to dominate you with a false narrative, fight back with simple and powerful messages to yourself.

You are enough.

Issues 4 and 5 of THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ were the most fun I’ve ever had drawing a comic, mostly because I’ve never had a character like Scraps in my toolbox.

And even though drawing all of those patches is a nightmare, I look forward to drawing her for 15 more issues.
