Oddly compelling, but very boring Project manager and science communicator. Semi-retired archaeologist and full-time Sheela-na-Gig hunter. Free Palestine.

The Mermaid of Clontuskert Priory

This carving forms part of a 15th century doorway into Clontuskert Priory in County Galway.

It depicts a mermaid, with a comb in her right hand and mirror in her left. She is accompanied by a shoal of fish.

I had this on Instagram recently as well with a staff member in our research centre ( I don't know them personally) and it is such a bizarre activity. I've just blocked them now 😂😂😂
Nothing but the memes. Which we can laugh-cry at forever.
It would be such a loss to see @vaginamuseum.bsky.social close it's doors permenantly!! 🥺

An opening so brutal my dad shouted "bloody hell!" during Sunday dinner and my mum made him apologize to us kids.
