Hoping for a Gerontius wave on the back of Alan Bennett's superbly concocted The Choral. But could we have a theatre version &/or get rid of the smoking mills CGI?

Bomb attack on local councillor & prominent critic of Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Dirk Breedveld www.bnnvara.nl/joop/artikel...
Twee kikkers in dezelfde mand?

Playing at numerous provincial golden weddings with bands like this, I always thought of trad jazz as old men's music, never that these guys were absolute sex symbols in the 1960s because pop hadn't arrived

Does the mass customization of murder mysteries make a place like Otley more or less attractive to potential residents?

Why hasn't a Leeds allotmenteer created a cultivar of Phaseolus coccineus called Otley Runner? #Headingley

A beautiful old fire alarm: heat curves a bimetallic strip, which causes mercury to shift from one end of its containing tube to the other, completing the alarm circuit. Mercury is magical stuff.

"The powers that be came by today to tell us that they're turning on Copilot. It's worse than useless for our line of research, so we just have to fine a way of ignoring it."

What to do when the grandad of a friend of the infant turns up at the front door with another 30kg of apples for cider? Not tell Mrs.

So is Hollin Lane a very ancient road connecting the Kirkstall monks' farm at New Grange aka Kirkstall Grange aka Beckett's Park to horticulture, tanning & quarries at Meanwood? (OS 1840s county layer)

A neighbour offered us a lift through the rain to school this morning, & I now understand why so many drivers appear to be undergoing a permanent nervous breakdown - a thoroughly unpleasant experience, & only marginally quicker

- Any chance of one of your ducks at Christmas?
- I'm having these ducklings sexed & I'll give you a male if there is one.
I suppose Mrs might not notice an exterior duck staircase leading to a small hole in the upstairs bathroom wall.

A friend of the infant: "My daddy's willy is so long that he has to wear trousers to stop it dragging along the ground." The infant is stricken by uncharacteristic modesty.

And again tonight. Anyone else struggling with the fact that littering is illegal but several times a year, Bonfire Night, Divali etc people can chuck cardboard, plastic and wood all over our cities and countryside yet that's somehow OK.
The appetite of the people of Leeds for fireworks is both impressive and fucking irritating.

I tend to doze while doing bedtime, so the infant has kindly taken it on herself to read me stories instead.

No idea what all the fuss was about a beaver moon, but climbing from Barcelona on Wednesday at 06:30 local & heading north I found strapped to my left arm a circular orange-bronze shield & in my right hand a fire-spear as long as the world, whereupon I slept & dreamt of dragons.

The notion that West Yorkshire - elite political hubs, urban sprawl, dismal public transport - is civilized in the same sense as the 1st century Maya were, with their “cities” such Tikal & Palenque

In favour of the DIY tunnels of terror in civic centres like El Coll, & on-street Seville orange fights, in Barcelona Halloween / Castanyada. Large explosions at 1 in the morning slightly less comforting, but at least no (dentist-sponsored?) trick-or-treating

In a normal year, taking 30 kg of good apples on the brink of November unobserved by the Headingley cider mafia would be cause for smugness. But this unicorn year the trees in question have another 300 kg, & even carrying them downhill is a Sisyphean prospect.

Infant entranced by David Lean's 1946 Great Expectations - hopes of life after KPop Demon Hunters. I particularly liked the initial seascape, Joe Gargery's (custom-built) house & the (ditto) Ship Inn. No mention of Dickens on Portswood Primary's annual jaunt to St Mary's Bay.
