Labcorp in the Hot Seat December 11 at 6pm Portland State Smith Union (Room 327/8) hosted by Portland Jobs with Justice Labcorp is a for-profit corporation that buys and runs hospital labs. They understaff them and underpay their employees with negative consequences for patient care. This is happening locally where Labcorp continues to rebuff efforts by the OFNHP to improve conditions. Concerned, the Portland Jobs with Justice Workers' Rights Board invites the community to a hearing on conditions at Labcorp facilities and ways to encourage productive negotiations between the union and Labcorp representatives. The panel will hear testimony from medical experts, lab workers, patients, and union representatives.

The wealthy set wages, rig employment levels, create job requirements, and put a price on necessities then blame poor people when they can’t afford necessities and can’t find jobs.

It’s not about finding a better job, it’s about stopping working class exploitation.

Even “affordable” rentals are too expensive for Portlanders, yet landlords refuse to lower costs and help keep us housed.

$96 million for 120 days of work. $15/hour for baristas who can’t get enough hours to qualify for benefits. That’s not “the best job in retail.” That’s greed.

Don’t shop at Starbucks while workers fight for fair pay, better staffing, and an end to union-busting.

LAWSUIT UPDATE RE: NATIONAL GUARD IN PORTLAND: National Guard deployment remains paused until Friday; judge says deployment is likely unlawful.

BREAKING NEWS: National Guard deployment remains paused until Friday; judge says deployment is likely unlawful. A federal judge just issued a preliminary injunction until 5pm Friday 11/7, in order to take additional time to weigh the evidence presented at trial this week. The judge indicated in the order, based on her initial review of the evidence, that deployment of National Guard troops in Portland is likely unlawful. This means that the National Guard still cannot be deployed to Oregon. “Today’s ruling is a step toward truth and accountability. From the beginning, this case has been about making sure the facts—not the President’s political whims—guide how the law is applied. We’re grateful the court is taking the time to get it right, and we’ll keep doing everything we can to protect Oregon’s ability to govern itself and keep our communities safe.” For now, the National Guard still cannot be deployed to Oregon. We anticipate a final ruling from the judge by Friday. We’ll continue to share updates as we have them.
