Bollocks. Going out to a shop is a chore that interferes with the other things I want to do - like spending time with friends and family. Last thing I bought on Amazon was a roll of 3d printer filament to make a decoration for a friend's 3 yo daughter. I spent the time saved showing her designs.

That's a case for *voluntary* ID, issued at taxpayer expense on request. It makes no case whatsoever for compulsory ID.
