This is why they will never be satisfied by political power, no matter how absolute and unchecked it is. They will always be perpetually aggrieved against the mere existence of cultural trends and civil society they dislike, and thus even more determined to use the government to stamp them out.

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Last autumn my dear departed doggie friend, Jake, and I were strolling and sniffing beneath some sycamore trees, where these great big leaves were scattered about. Here's one I brought home.

Being a generally hopeful person, I wonder if an inflection point will finally come from all this, when a critical mass of society will take a full enough measure of the trump depravity to rise and rebel. Maybe be 10/18 will help move that along?
