I used to ask visual artists I liked after public talks and have a handful I treasure...the toughest to get was Mona Hatoum. But it was never a commercial idea just a chance to have a chat after listening to them.

It's largely harmless activity but this story stretches to an OTT level. A bunch of autographs is of little historic value in the future, just a trophy of an encounter to fill one's internal emptiness.

In two minds about autograph hunters especially after performances having had to deal with them, many just professional hustlers, at the Albert Hall when on stage door duty. A lot of artists don't want the hustle and they can sniff the non genuine ones.
