Saturday midday listening - Soul Makossa by Lafayette Afro-Rock Band. Getting me in the groove for the weekend with fantastic funky Afro-Rock #musicsky

The album is “Soul Makossa” by Lafayette Afro-Rock Band. The cover shows a close-up portrait of a woman with a natural afro hairstyle, gold earrings, and a calm, confident expression. The album title Soul Makossa is written in large, bold, stylized letters across the top in a carved-wood–like font, with the band’s name beneath it.

On the turntable, the vinyl itself is a green translucent pressing.

This record is part of the Afro-funk / Afro-rock movement of the 1970s, blending African rhythms with funk, soul, and jazz. The Lafayette Afro-Rock Band were originally formed in the U.S. but moved to Paris in the early 1970s, becoming cult favorites for their deep grooves and percussion-heavy sound. Their records have since become highly collectible and heavily sampled in hip-hop and electronic music.
