During the great Chinese famine, a few communist party officials organised food aid for the starving. They were arrested, put on trial for "denying the great harvest" and shot. I imagine that kind of atmosphere to an extent exists in the Republican Party right now.

It’s apparently not good for democracy when one party controls all three branches of government, and said party has been captured by a vengeful, corrupt, and unconstrained authoritarian with no respect for law or custom. Who could have known?
