Ripping it to pieces would be too easy, so here's 10 things that would've made it better:

Now season 1 has finished, I am left wondering if I watched a different show to the one the reviewers did.

It was a relatively compelling sci-fi show. It was not a satisfying addition to the Alien franchise.
10/ Actually conclude something, rather than wimping out to season 2, which may or may not happen.

And this final point is really why I'm confused at the glowing reviews. The entire season is a tease to a payoff that doesn't happen, and that's just bad TV, regardless of the franchise.
9/ At some point the Alien should have disobeyed Wendy, and start her journey of realising that she isn’t in control.

Which would then have given her a great motivation to try to get control of the facility instead, as she - like all teenagers do - begins to test out their independence.
8/ Set designs should feel like real functioning places, especially in this world. Rework the ones that were designed to look cool, rather than real.

The Yutani board meeting and the holding cells being the worst: neither make sense and just reminded you you're watching a show.
7/ The tone was all over the place, the only scenes that landed the expectations of the franchise were the ones with eyeball and the scene between Silvia and Nibs.

Yes, tension works in bursts, but the Alien: Final Destination bits detracted from the good stuff. Let alone the Alien: Lost episode 🙄
6/ Also on the Alien: the scenes with high body counts detracted massively.

Lone Aliens stalk their prey and wait for the perfect time to strike, and that's what makes them so bloody terrifying.
5/ Remove all the full body shots of the Alien, especially in broad daylight.

It look like a 100$ Halloween suit.
4/ Boy Wonder Vs Wendy

He should have put up a fight as Wendy tried to take control of the facility: there was a real chance to showcase the talent we kept getting told he had, but never actually shown.
3/ All the hybrids should have been able to hear the Aliens, but Wendy be the only one that chose to keep the ability. Seed remorse for killing one, and a misguided belief she might be able to understand them.
2/ Joe should've died in front of Wendy in Episode 2, leading her to immediately revenge kill that Alien and plant the seed for her later motivations.
1/ It should have been set after Alien: Resurrection. Everything would've worked exactly the same, and in fact Yutani's motivations would be even stronger.

It also wouldn't have needed to feel shoe-horned in to some strange timeframe.

There are bits of Alien: Earth that I'm really enjoying, but the 3 second "fade to black as if there's an ad break" continues to destroy the pacing.

They make it feel like a collection of scenes they thought were cool rather than a cohesive whole.
As a long standing invert-y person, this article makes me happy.
OK, but who is inverting their horizontal controls?

The biggest takeaway from Alien: Earth is that Noah Hawley really likes Goat Simulator.

Tell me there’s an eyeball add-on skin pack coming for GS3 🙏🏼
They absolutely nailed the aesthetic of the ship, all the shots look delicious.
