That’s a great question. Both of my parents worked too… this sounds pessimistic, but I guess this problem goes far earlier than that. We are living in an age with more access and exposure to everyday events, so we are more aware of domestic violence (even though it remains extreme underreported)

Definitely starts at home, and raising my boys to be respectful and mindful. When the home isn’t supportive, there needs to be an active community with positive role models.

It’s challenging for me to raise my daughters to believe that they are equal and strong yet they need to be mindful of their safety every moment of the day. Good thing they are smarter and more resilient than their dad.
