I am upset because I see something that is not there, the fifth Fire-Toolz album to join the Hausu Mountain catalog since 2017, offers listeners a prismatic cross-section of juxtaposed genres and compositional contortions to explore, maintaining Fire-Toolz's signature density and complexity while tightening the scope of Marcloid's experimentation into the project's most focused song cycle to date. Perhaps more than any previous Fire-Toolz album, I am upset [...] presents some form of pop music, carried in Marcloid's passages of clean vocals, in the bright synth and keyboard tones that animate its tracks, in the yearning saxophone lines that pour into view and whisk the narrative onto a new path. The format of a one-person "band" carries a different weight in a landscape of solo artists crafting abstract modernist productions that don't allude in the slightest to various twentieth-century rock-related traditions. Fire-Toolz exists on both sides of this divide. The music of Fire-Toolz draws energy on a moment-to-moment basis from the constant fluctuation between seemingly disparate styles, yet Marcloid pulls off the impossible feat again and again of making chaotic deviations and improbable jump-cuts between ideas sound holistic, as if such compositional gambits were already logical to begin with. Bursts of harsh textural noise cut into drifts of new age synth bliss, while miniature screamo verses bookend passages of hyper-technical jazz fusion.

Bobo Integral Records announces the Deluxe Edition of "Dead Calm", the debut album by The Boys With The Perpetual Nervousness, available September 13, 2024. This edition enriches the original tracks (now remastered), which were met with immediate success and critical acclaim, with new material and acoustic demos. Also incorporates an expected insert with all lyrics. Upon its initial release in 2019 by Pretty Olivia Records, "Dead Calm" was celebrated for its melodic craftsmanship. Purepopradio praised it asa "masterpiece of melody and harmony", Powerpopaholic rated it 9/10 and included it in their "best of 2019 list for best power pop this year", and Section 26 recommended it as "Presque indispensable". After two other records, "Songs From Another Life" and "The Third Wave Of...", that are now cult classics in the genre, it's the time to come back to the record that started it all. The Deluxe Edition offers fans an exclusive track from the original sessions, "Wouldn't Be Anywhere Else", and six acoustic demos that provide insight into the band's creative process. Reflecting their musical influences, such as The Byrds, R.E.M., Big Star, The Go-Betweens, Teenage Fanclub and the classic power pop era, the band's sound is a contemporary homage to these inspirations. Andrew Taylor is the leader and soul of Dropkick, a wonderful Scottish power pop group with touches of altcountry. Gonzalo Marcos is part of the cult Spanish indie pop group El Palacio de Linares and founder of the Bobo Integral Records label. The two forged a friendship during Dropkick's first tour of Spain and Dropkick ended up releasing a couple of albums on the label. During a visit to Edinburgh, Andrew invited Gonzalo to his rehearsal space, and in a few minutes they gave shape to "Nervous Man", a jangle pop hit that will lead to a first 7" single on Pretty Olivia Records. On another occasion, this time with Andrew visiting Madrid, the bulk of their first album, "Dead Calm", was recorded in a few hours. It was also released by Pretty Olivia in 2019, selling out in days and receiving great reviews around the world. The group consolidated this work with two new albums "Songs From Another Life" (2021) and "The Third Wave of..." (2022). Now it is time to return to "Dead Calm", in a remastered edition, expanded with an unreleased song from those sessions ("Wouldn't Be Anywhere Else") and 6 acoustic demos that show how the songs were constructed and how they shone already in their embryonic state.

This is their most successful album to date, and was originally released in May 1973. The album peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Top LPs chart and received a Gold certification for sales exceeding 500,000. The album spawned their most successful single “So Very Hard to Go”. The single peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Two other singles from the album also charted on the Billboard Hot 100 “This Time It’s Real” and “What Is Hip?”.
