Especially in times of sociopolitical regression, we tend to see a proliferation of gothic works, as there’s no better genre to represent being haunted by the decaying edifices of an older world order...

just saw a screening of the witch (2015) and as the credits were rolling i was saying extremely earnestly to my friends “i think it’s just SUCH a beautiful film” and the woman in front of me turned to give the most incredulous side eye
