Previously, I had just started to understand texturing and basic materials.

Now we're adding in more complexity to the shaders and polishing the details. I still need to add in the rest of the details to her clothing. ✊✨

So it's been some time. I wanted to post a "Before and After" of some of the progress I've been making.

Aside from the fact that these are completely different characters. (One of which is straight up fanart.)

I think we can definitely see some major improvements.
Topology is the horrifying, incomprehensible creature rearing it's head towards you as you attempt to understand its very nature and being. Once you've gazed at the tris, quads, and ngons long enough, you begin to understand it's madness enough to realize:

Today was a really good day for progress.

I cleaned up my base model, got it to around 11,000 polys. Put together some straps for a flashy "anime style" rig. (designs still pending) and redid the character's top.

This is the part where you, the artist, get to really stretch your brain and see if you can actually apply the things you've learned into a cohesive, complete design. This is where you go from "concept" to "creation."

Right now, I think it's sick as shit-- Let's see how I feel after another month.
But I think that's the exciting part. Opening up Blender and seeing that comforting "box" before moving on to whatever project you are working on.

Right now, I'm working on creating the "Accessories" and defining traits that make character design so damn awesome. Is it work? Yes. Is it cool? Yes.
In creating "Douyin Girl" I discovered an entire world of new creative ideas and loops that a person could get caught up in. The sort of "massiveness" of saying: "I want to make a 3D project" can be easily walked into and misunderstood-- thus causing others to walk away from it.

I was initially inspired by this idea to create something that is a middle finger to AI art. I catalogued all of my steps so that I could one day share "How to be better" than it.

I can't stress enough that I'm really quite happy since this is my first real go at making a 3D model. I've learned so much that I think it has changed how I draw quite a bit as well.

But enough basking in my own lamp light.

I already have ideas on how I can make a 2.0 model look much better.
We're starting to see something come to life!

It went from a bald character to someone with clothes and hair! This is "Douyin Girl"

We'll be seeing her in many forms.

I'm just excited to see the effort coming to fruition. It's been a solid amount of work. But there's still more to learn!
I can't wait to have this weight painted and then moving to texturing and then modeling actual designs on the character. It's going to be absolutely mental.

And this is all because of a really really strange circumstance that got me into 3D modeling. I will share more in due time.
