It has nothing to do with appealing to an ideological center. “Centrists” and “moderate” dems have been trans rights maximalists for the last 3 cycles. Suggesting there’s room to discuss sports and pre-teen transition is not abandoning trans rights, and it’s certainly not about winning moderates.

Now, if I were to make a proposal here, it's that liberals and progressives should pursue an in-group/out-group strategy where the in-group is decent, patriotic, sensible people who care about others, and the out-group is unhinged extremists and bigots who want to inflict pain and commit crimes.

Love it but the problem remains that the left doesn't care particularly about patriotism, decency, or "sensibility" (in that it suggests self-limitation / deference to rule of law)

I am tired of sitting around wishfully imagining a good-faith left that cared somewhat for liberal values. They don't.

Canadian rural horror classic RITUALS (1977) is must-watch summer viewing. It's paced like an excellent novel by someone like Peter Straub, and follows a group of doctors, all lifelong friends, going on their annual trip into the remote Northern Ontario wilderness. Only this time, they're not alone.

The group of protagonists at the start of their adventure, wherein surely nothing truly horrible will happen to them.

Two of the main characters struggle, one of the doctors has his hands grasped around the others' throat.
